Lightroom 6 Installation?

I purchased a boxed version of Lightroom 6 for my wife for her computer running Windows 8.  Unfortunately, I didn't know that her computer does NOT have a CD/DVD drive.  Before I unbox everything and send it back, can I download Lightroom from the website and use the serial number from the CD that I have?

According to Adobe's website, I am downloading "Lightroom_6_LS11.exe".  The size is listed as 744 MB.  On her computer in the downloads directory it lists as "Lightroom_6_LS11" with no extension.  When I pull up it's properties it's a DLL and I can't do anything with it.  It's size is 761879 KB.  The file was downloaded from "https://helpx.adobe.com/kb/lightroom-downloads.html"

Her computer is a Lenovo ideapad running Windows 8.

assuming you downloaded the correct file, rename it to Lightroom_6_LS11.exe.  and then double click it.

    Download from Download Photoshop Lightroom

Install then enter your serial number.

    Then update to version 6.10.

I have now downloaded the "supposed" install file 4x.  Each time it states that it's a DLL file and wants to know what program to open it with.  NOTHING works.  Any other suggestions would be most appreciated.  Thank you.

yes.  install the latest version 6, 6.10.

    Downloadable installation files available:

Download and installation help for Adobe links

Download and installation help for Prodesigntools links are listed on most linked pages.  They are critical; especially steps 1, 2 and 3.  If you click a link that does not have those steps listed, open a second window using the Lightroom 3 link to see those 'Important Instructions'.

I can NOT get the program itself or the "Creative Cloud" version to install.  I've downloaded the standalone "supposed" program 4x.  It's actually a DLL file looking for a program to run it.  Nothing that's installed on my wife's computer will run it.  Every time I attempted (3x) to install the "Creative Cloud" it bombed citing "server stopped responding".  All of this sounds like an Adobe problem, but I don't know how to proceed.
