Hi in have been using Lightroom 6 for years (many thousands of images....) but have just had to buy a new PC.
I know dowloads are discontinued but I still had the original install files and serial numbers, so I did manage to install it, but when I open it I am asked to register the product.
To do this I have to login to Adobe, which confirms registration, but the newly installed program does not seem to recognise it.... So it always asks for registration when I try to open it and I can't make that stick.
Is it really true that if you are unfortunate enough to need to move to a new PC, that's the end for you as a user of LR6????
The aged out activation services are no longer functioning at 100%.
You should budget for modern software that's compatible with your new system.
Creative Cloud Photography Plan (approx $10/month for 12 months). Includes the following:

Yes. I've tried the generator twice, with the same response code as the result.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried Chrome, and one character was changed from a 1 to a lower case L, but still the same result "response code entered is invalid. Please re-enter". Should I attempt a uninstall/re-install, or am I stuck with this request code that I cannot answer? As an aside, it's nice that there are three characters that all appear identical on the adobe site, numeral 1, upper case i and lower case L all look the same.

One more thought, I'm signed in to LR6 on my old PC where the product is still functioning, would that be causing this specific error message? My new PC is offline....

if the other install/activation were the problem you would see a different message: an excess activation count message.
so no uninstalling won't help

p.s. you should be copying and pasting the response code.

Thank you. I am, utilizing a thumb drive, to no avail. I appreciate your assistance, but it appears it is time for me to part ways with Adobe after 20 years as I cannot in good conscience justify their subscription model as an amateur.

Well, just for sh*ts and giggles, I uninstalled and reinstalled, a different request code was generated, I then used it to requested a response code, using the same thumb drive method, and LR6 is now successfully installed on the new PC. Wow, that was fun.
Thanks for all your assistance kglad.
So.... do I sign off on my old PC to avoid issues, as I believe I can only be signed on to one version.... or are there any other things I need to avoid before connecting the internet to my new PC?

that's unexpected. but typically you're allowed two install/ activations.
if you are going to uninstall, make sure you deactivate (help > deactivate) first.
before doing that update your default browser and your os.

That one I'm not following, I'm sorry.... I have installed LR6 on a brand new PC (3 days old) running windows 11... can I sign in to LR and import my catalogue from my external hard drive that was connected to the old PC that has the original version of LR6 or should I deactivate that version on the old PC first? Or can I just sign out of LR6 on the old PC and continue with the migration? I just don't want this migration to go sideways after all the effort to get LR6 moved...

You're allowed 2 activations per license. Beyond that, you'll need to deactivate from a previously installed device.
Hope that helps.

I haven't got my install files with me. Unsure if I have a CD but my CD ROM on old laptop isn't functioning anymore. If anyone has any idea how I can get my LR6 to new laptop... Also cannot afford subscription which is why I got that particular LR. Never thought I'd have a different laptop!
Need help, have downloaded Aftershot 3 in meantime to see what is way forward if I have to kiss LR gbye ...

Esther

Thank you, that's very helpful. I'll take a my time to do a nice orderly migration of my catalogue and then deactivate the LR on it before retiring the old box.
