Need to reinstall CS 5.5 and then CS 6 - CS 5.5 install fails.

This is on Win7, and all combinations of cold boot, restart, removed 3 external drives. and also with them connected.

Attempting a clean install of cs 5.5, and then the upgrade to 6, I first tried to UNinstall cs 55..

First msg is "...machine restart may be pending.." , so I restarted the machine (several times now).   if i say, ignaore, i get " installer failed to initialize".

[Maybe unnecessary] History:

after reinstalling following a  HD repair, then had a card reader issue.   a MS tech suggested a restore point process, and  In the process, CS 5.5 and CS 6 looked to be [partially] uninstalled.,ie, desktop icons gone...back to the shop with the machine, and decided to just use a usb card reader.

A dell concierge tech then ran a REVO uninstall on it, but it still won't install.  I have the actual disks with all product keys etc, and have installed from these disks before, so there must be pieces of 5.5 left laying around.

I got as far as the "analyze the GZ files" in comp/prog86/Common/Adobe/Installers, unzipped and can read on a word doc, however, I can look at that all day and not know what to look for.   Which, first of all, looks like there is indeed several files left on the machine even after a REVO uninstall..... Hope I included enough info to explain.

I realize this sounds "confused", but at least THAT is accurate...

You are correct, it does NOT seem to be a fresh install.. although it may have been, and then he saved what he could from the other half of the raid - which was the reason for the RAID in the first place - so I would NOT lose everything - I used to know a lot more about sytem stuff when it was cmd lines and dos boot, but have not had to deal with things or cared to either,  other than to start over after a crash; I'd rather just create   - at least I have my docs etc saved on external drives.

And it appears that I did not get the new win 7 install disk with ser num - trusted techs locally, so perhaps just an oversight...

Thanks for the heads up on the win10 solution.- I'll avoid going that route. I guess I'll take a look into whether an Adobe tech can repair this mess - and will leave you a "correct" for your time with this...

AND..the plot thickens - I now have CS6 fully installed, after a little work on things myself - the MS techs with "system restore" and the Dell Techs with their use of REVO and CCleaner, neither of whom were able to get things completed for some reason couldn't see all the ADOBE files located in folders on the C drive.   -  a couple dozen or so.....under progfilesx86, and progfiles, etc....

Maybe they did some good cleaning down in the Registry and other bowels of the system, but The ADOBE Forum Support suggested I go to the Log files, and this time, having actually read all the steps, got me down to the end of the lengthy install log, which simply had 3 errors, all related, and having to do with not being able to delete certain directories, and faced with a complete wipe of the system and having to reinstall MS office, and a half dozen music creation apps, I figured I had nothing to lose by simply manually deleting anything ADOBE that I could find [why don't the "cleaner" apps see those things?] - so DELETE I did, and that was that - rebooted, put the CS6 disk back in and watched it put everything back  in place.

That may not be the solution for everyone, [somewhat akin to a "foxhole conversion"] ...but ADOBE and the Creative Suite particularly has always seemed to be a fairly robust package and the "big hammer" approach apparently didn't cause any damage, but might seem

    dangerous to attempt....

Thanks for the input on this one -

At this point, you MAY need a registry cleaner to remove left behind pieces... I don't know a good one, but a search should help

When you do get all left over parts of CS5.5 removed, you should not need to install 5.5 before CS6... all you need is the previous serial number (when asked) to prove that you are allowed to install the upgrade version

this is vaguely familiar - about not having to reinstall 5.5 - however, i'm now faced with the same err msg on attempting to install CS6 -  I did manage to get this done a couple weeks back, so I know it can be done - just not sure where to go next with this...  "Installer failed to initialize Please download adobe support advisor to detect the problem, and of course, that's no longer available .  Perhaps I should mention (just saw it) - this IS an Educational version....

Have you thought about wiping your hard drive and starting with a fresh Windows install?
