Not using Cloud. What is the new update: Application Manager for?
The updates of my Adobe Design and Web Premium CS6 meant for Windows 7 I purchased, offered me the option to install Adobe Application Manager.
I expected an update of one of the core components with the updater, so I may have missed some text with an explanation of this Application Manager. Now it's installed, but I am at a loss why.
1. What exactly is Adobe Application Manager?
There is no information, not even in the Help section, of this application that explains what it is supposed to do.
I found this link: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4773
This link suggests, it is a sort of a one-stop-shop for Creative products updates and installations.
However, if I click the Updates function in one of my CS6 products, it does not start the Adobe Application Manager, but the usual Updates interface.
2. Why does it show all Adobe Creative products that can be run on my machine?
If it is an extension for my Creative Suite updates, then I am not supposed to see products on the list that are not part of my Creative Suite. This contradicts the information in the abovementioned link and suggests it concerns Creative Cloud products.
3. Why does it show "install" next to the list of all Adobe products?
Then again, if it is a general Application Manager, I expect to see differed states for different products:
- Install: when your product you purchased is not yet installed
- Update: to update the products you have installed.
- Try: if you want to install I a product you are instereseted in, but have not purchased.
The state "install" makes sense only if this Application Manger is meant for Creative Cloud products.
4. If only for Creative Cloud, why was it delivered to me as an update of my Creative Suite products?
I choose a Creative Suite, so why could it not detect that?
But I don't want to be pushed information through the Updates function about products I do not want.
On the other hand, it is seems to be a core component of the Creative Suite, since I cannot uninstall it using the "Programs and Features" function in the Control Panel of Windows 7.
This application comes with many contradictions, so I hope Adobe can clarify its function.
Cheers,
Dave
