Question

Photoshop Elements 6 won't register

I have Photoshop Elements 6 installed on my old laptop. I have purchased a new laptop and have installed the program on it. The product key/serial number works on the new machine. However, I cannot register the program. I get an error message that says the product cannot be registered. I have tried to deactivate the program on my old laptop, but can't find and option to do this in the help menu. Please help.

Moving this discussion to the Downloading, Installing, Setting Up forum.

Jimmyjamo I can confirm that the copy of Photoshop Elements 6, for Windows, registered under your account does not utilize activation technology.  You can find complete details on how to locate your registered serial number at Find your serial number Jimmyjamo.

Arunast58448901 similar to my response to Jimmyjamo your registered copy of Photoshop Elements 7 does not utilize activation technology.  In your case though you have an OEM bundle of Photoshop Elements 7.  This means that the installation files at Download Photoshop Elements versions 9, 8, 7 will likely give you an error message that your serial number is invalid.  Please locate the installation files provided with the bundle that included Photoshop Elements 7.  You registered the software on 5-6-10 so I would look for the new purchase of a camera, scanner, computer, or printer that may have been bundled with Photoshop Elements 7.

There is no activation on the great majority of copies of PSE 6, so that's no problem, and registration was voluntary for PSE 6, so I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure you have a record of serial number in case you need it again sometime.

So, if registration of PSE 6 was voluntary, why it bugs me with demand to register it every time I open the program?

That's activation and not registration, so it's mandatory unlike registration which is optional.

Let me make a couple of inquiries and i'll get back to you.

As far as I know, there has never been any 'activation' for PSE6, so I believe that congolover must be dealing with a more recent version (from PSE7 on). As stated by Barbara, you only need the original CD (or its copy) and the license key to be able to install it on a new computer.
