Premiere Elements 11 "installing Shared Technologies" error during install

How do I fix the "The installation process has encountered an error whil installing Shared Technologies. Please restart your system and try again." error while installing Premiere Elements 11? Photoshop Elements 11 installed fine, but I keep receiving this error while trying to install Premier Elements 11.

I have already tried:

Install from CD

Install from C: drive root

Install from Adobe website trial version

Install from CD, after clean boot

In each case it installs at the same place with the same error.

From searching these forums and doing a web search it seems like a common problem with no clear solution.

Thank you for your input on this matter. My situation is that I am trying to install Premiere Elements 10 (disc 2 of 5) on Windows 8 64 bit laptop and cannot get beyond the Shared Technology error (Feature: Data 7). At that point, it appears that a lot of the program is installed...even have a desktop icon. But the roll back was wiping that out. I have tried "every" trick in the book. What worked to maintain what was installed was your Chat person's use of the Task Manager.

Inspecting what is installed with this workaround, it would appear that it is the Elements Organizer that is missing since when I click on that Organizer option in the Premiere Elements 10 workspace, the Elements Organizer does not open. And, the use of Get Media from: Elements Organizer does not open the Elements Organizer.

I wonder about TPE71's status report that everything is now working. Is the Organizer working or just Premiere Elements workspace and the features accessed from the Elements Organizer workspace? I tried TPE71's details and still could not get anything more than just Premiere Elements workspace.

The interesting part of all this is that the other day I installed Premiere Elements 11 on this same Windows 8 computer without issue, and it is still working both Premiere Elements 11 and Elements Organizer 11 interfaces.

You are right -- I can't get Elements Organizer to work from either the Photoshop Elements welcome screen, or the Premiere Elements menu. It must be something that doesn't get set up riight by setup not finishing fully, or some other bug.

I was able to get Elements Organizer to run by going to the Programs directory and clicking on the .exe directly -- C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 11 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe

I did a registry search for the organizer and found that for this program the "open" command is the link above -- C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 11 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe

However, the "launch" command is \"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 11 Organizer\PseProxy.exe\" -v \"%1\"

When I click directly on PseProxy.exe at the path above, nothng happens.

Under the Photoshop Elements section under "launch" the line is slightlly different -- "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 11 Organizer\PseProxy.exe" -v "%1"

I don't know enough about registry commands to know if this is perfectly normal or not -- just noticed they were different.

I don't have the time to play with it, and don't want to risk messing things up. I probably won't be using the Organizer much anyway. Just wondering what other functionality I'll find missing.

Searching these forums it looks like this error has been going on for a few generations of product and is somewhat common. I hope Adobe puts some resources and effort in fixing this bug.

Also if you had pervious version of adobe installed, you may want to check installed files in the common files which may have not been uninstalled (i.e. camera raw). Use the date modified to filter associated files(will be the same date). When I deleted old files I had successful installation without errors in installing shared technologies. Organizer also works well.

What was the computer operating system and version of Premiere Elements involved your "Shared Technologies" installation issue?

My history with the issue is described in this thread up to the point where I managed to get Premiere Elements 11 installed on Windows 8 64 bit. My problems in this regard went through the following cycles:

a. Got a new Windows 8 64 bit laptop. Installed Premiere Elements 11 and Photoshop Elements 11, no problems.

b. Went to install Photoshop Elements 10 and Premiere Elements 10 on this same computer and could not, continuously stopped by the Shared Technologies issue. In troubleshooting the version 10 matter, I uninstalled Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 11 and found that I could not installed any of these programs because of Shared Technologies.

c. Even though copying version 11 installation files to the computer and installing from there did not work, I finally got Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 11 installed without problem by installing from the Adobe disc using an USB 2.0 external burner attached to the laptop USB 3.0.

d. Several weeks after that I decided to try the "USB 2.0 external burner attached to the laptop USB 3.0" as the route to installing Photoshop Elements 10 and Premiere Elements 10 on this Windows 8 64 bit laptop. Both programs installed with any problems.

Since there are such varied reports on what worked for different users in order to avoid the Shared Technologies error, I am not sure if what worked for me would work for anyone else. Maybe I missed it, but I have not seen any recent input from Adobe on this matter.

My computer operating system is windows 7 64 bit. I was installing PSE 11. Yes the error can be attributed to a number of different issues such as not having permission to write to a certain folder and or having remnants of previous versions of the adobe installation files (usually left over in the common files of windows 7) preventing installation of other adobe software from writing to the same file.

You have to delete a couple of leftover files. Quiet why the installer can't spot that and take care of it, or at least provide a useful error message, I really don't understand. I guess it's more fun making customers work harder to install the software.

Like all of the above I have tried many ways of installing this and to no avail, its now at the point of me returning the item and looking at other software.

I am disgusted that to enable the installion of this item you have to spend hours messing around, surely the point of buying from a 'reputable' company is that you insert the disc and follow the simple online instructions!!!

If I had wanted to be a computer expert then that is the line I would have taken for work, all I can say is Adobe you are a MASSIVE let down.

I have the same installation problem with both Photoshop and Premier Elements 11. Tried rebooting 3 times but no success. Downloaded and tried the ASA. It indicated everything was fine. Went to look for the installation files, couldn't even find the sub-directory. I appreciate all the technical input from my fellow users and from Adobe staff. However, I don't have the time, or the computer skill or the desire to work this through. And I'm certainly not going to pay for help to install malfunctioning software.

I'll try the chat line tomorrow. If all works out then great. If not Photoshop and Premier Elements go back to Future Shop ASAP.

Judgeing from the number of submissions above, Adobe has a MAJOR problem with this software's installation and, from my perspective, it is responsible for making it right.

But I don't want to just complain, I would also like to recommend remedial action. One way is to replace, at no additional cost, the existing software with something that works. Another way is to provide direct telephone support at no cost.

Your attention to this matter is appreciated.

Message was edited by: superjetting Update: Was on the chat line for about 4 hours. Fellow worked hard to get Photoshop 11 up and running but not Premier Elements. For me one no good without the other. Guess I'm back to Future Shop today. Adobe's reputation has taken an extreme hit in my estimation.

Well, I read all the responses to this Dec. 12 thread and was aghast that I seemed to have to know a lot more about computers (windows particularly) than I thought necessary to install some consumer s/w! Got the same Shared Technologies error msg. installing Elements Organizer - tried a couple things but what finally worked was to take Adobe's suggestion and copy all the CD files to C:\PSE7Installer folder that I created just before the copy. Long story shortened - it worked and I am now converting my PSE 9 database to 11. Running Windows 7 on a couple year old Dell XPS laptop. More later if this does not work but I am past the Shared Tech err msg at least. ;-)

I had all the same problems and read all of the replies with interest. So after my first attempt did its automatic rollback I manually ran the setup.exe by right clicking on the file and specifying to run as administrator. It ran through to completion. I am running Windows 7

Thanks for posting your results. I thought that I had tried what worked for you, but I decided to give it one more try, following your route to success.

Result: same no go at Data7.

What Premiere Elements version are you working with here, Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 8? I suspect that I am the only one in this thread who is trying to get Premiere Elements 10 installed on Windows 8.

Saw that, tried what the mention, but if you read it they describe the symptoms but don't give much in the way of a solution. The ASA program just said the system was waiting for a reboot -- no surprise, because that is what the install error says. A reboot does nothing.

The link gives zero real help.

Right after my initial post I was finally able to connect online with the "Chat with an agent" support option. We've been chatting the last 2 hours, with me sharing my desktop. He initially went through some of the suggestions seen on these forums and knowledge bases -- no luck.

He finally was able to get it to install. Basically when the setup stopped with the error mentioned above in my original post, before clicking on the error message he went into Task Manager and stopped all the Windows Installer and Adobe Install programs. This prevented the install from rolling back due to the error.

It appears to be working, but I'm not sure if I lost anything since the install/setup never fully completed. He had to manually set up the start menu and desktop shortcuts, since they didn't get setup due to the aborted install.

Not pretty or elegant, but it appears to have worked. Still didn't find or fix the bug in the Adobe install/setup program...
