CS3 and Acrobat 8 activation server is retired see reply #1 https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2372929

-you MUST use the special serial number AND the special installer, not your originals

-includes a link to get the special version AND links to help with activation problems

Two ideas that MAY work to install and/or run old programs in Windows 10

-RIGHT click the program icon or EXE and select a compatibility mode in the pop up option window

-or Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 to assign FULL Windows permissions may help... says Encore, but sometimes required for ALL Adobe programs (this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account)

Owners of old programs simply have problems with Windows 10... none of which is Adobe's fault... Adobe did not change your old program to make it stop working... Microsoft changed their operating system and THAT is why your old program won't work, not because of anything Adobe did... Also... every time Microsoft issues a Win10 update, there is the risk that an old program that HAS been working after the initial Win10 upgrade will STOP working... bottom line, old programs require a matching old operating system

Thanks, John, for your prompt reply

I've done that already and followed the steps for the 3rd, 4th, 5th time, but the same problem persists, I'm still getting the Temporary Activate window

Mind you it was working fine in windows 10, until the update on the 23rd, when adobe went bazerk on me

Such is the danger of an unsupported configuration. Any update at any time can bring you down.

Have you tried running the apps in Windows 7 compatibility?

I’m sorry, but if you’ve tried that along with the new serial number and procedures, to activate it you’re pretty much on your own here.

I'm not overly technical here, but I do understand the basics and can follow instructions, I thought this is something a bit beyond me and could not find an answer for it on line that's why I contacted adobe for "help" and eventually came here

There was a "windows 10 update" notification and I thought why not let me go ahead and run the update, had I known that Adobe was going to punish me for this I would have NEVER run the update

I don't know what I did wrong except running that damn update

I tried running the program in windows 7 compatibility...I still got that "Temporary Activation" window....mind you it was working on windows 10 perfectly before the update, then I rolled it back to the previous windows 10, and nothing, adobe is still giving me that "Temporary Activation" window

yeah, I kind of figured that I'm on my own here after the 2 chats, until it works, what someday!? this has become one useless program for $1767

Oh, please!

You want to run a 10 year old program on a new operating system and you're going to blame Adobe for your problems? There's plenty of things to criticize but this is not one of them. You got plenty of mileage out of that software.

and why not, programs keep updating to keep them up and running, but I guess you're right, it will be too much to ask

so far I was happy with adobe, no criticism except for this, that's it

but what bugged me, it that it was working perfectly fine, and on windows 10 at that, if it wasn't for that update it would still be working

And that is the problem with running unsupported configurations. In case you care, it’s worse on the Mac side of things.

You can’t move to a new operating system in a vacuum.

Seven59889 the current activation error you are facing is due to needing to remove the cache.db file.  Please review the steps listed in Resolve "temporary activation expired" error for CS3 and Acrobat 8 for details on how to resolve the current error.  You do need to use the new installation files, and serial number, as referenced by John in message #1 of this discussion.

If you have any additional questions you are welcome to update this forum discussion.

Jeff, it almost worked, i was able to enter the new serial number but then I got this:

connection failure.png

at least it's not pestering me anymore, well I wonder how long this will last

I found this post on adobe regarding the registration connection failure: REGISTRATION CONNECTION FAILURE

but that didn't make any difference I already had those setting enabled

but Thanks anyway

Registration is not the same as activation.

As Bob stated registration is not the same as activation Seven59889.  In this case the registration service was shut down several years ago after the ability to register on http://www.adobe.com/ was added.

Please do review your account to verify your original Creative Suite 3 serial number is registered.  You can find complete details regarding the process at Find your serial number

For the dialog above you can click on Register Later Seven59889.  You may also need to enable Javascript to gain the ability to choose the Never Register option.

LATEST

Yes, the original serial number is already registered on the adobe website since 2008

Java was never disabled and I checked that again and again, it's still enabled, but anyway

Many thanks everyone
