I'm a creative Cloud Member and I'm trying to update Photoshop to 13.1 but everytime I go to Help>Update, the Adobe Application Manager keeps giving me "The update server is not responding.."

Correct answer lordwinkevin

Then it is likely the issue is external to your computer's software configuration.  If you have an I.T. department you should certainly be working with them.  If not then you may want to look at your router settings or contact your Internet Service provider.

I have solved the problem. After countless times of refreshing Windows 8, uninstalling, and reinstalling, I have found that my Samsung laptop came with a software that would allow me to set a "Mobile Access Point" or in other words a hotspot.

I followed the instructions on how to disable the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" but my computer does not show a Microsoft Virtual Mifi Miniport Adapter.

I knew this adapter set a hotspot so what I did was activate the "Mobile Access Point" through the samsung software that came with my computer and then just as I expected, it showed the "Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter" and was able to DISABLE it.

After disabling, I was able to see the updates without the Update Server not Responing error.

Also, after diabling the "Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter" I went to Device Manager and under Network Adapter, I found that "Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter"  has been disabled. So for those who don't see the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" you have to activate a hotspot first so it will show up or try to disable it through Device Manager by disabling "Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter"

So this turns out to be a problem with Adobe Application Manager and Microsoft Virtual Wifi Adapter. Hopefully Adobe will have a fix for this soon because Windows 8 users does not have the "Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter" visible by default.

Hope this helps someone!

Thank you for this. I have an HP Probook, 3 months old and found that this procedure worked to allow Adobe update manager do its job. Many thanks. Truly appreciated.

If you have or are running Hola Unblocker, disable it for the duration of the installs. Hola interferes with the network communication even though the updater is not running inside Chrome/Firefox/IE.

Lordwinkevin it is likely something is blocking the Adobe Application Manager from contacting the update server.  Please see Sign in or activation errors | CS6, CS5.5 Subscriptions, CS6 Perpetual - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-network-issues.html.

Sorry I have followed every single thing from the instruction but It's still giving me the same error. I have reinstalled from a refreshed PC.

Jeff:  The issue is related to #4, but note that the "Miniport" entry on the Devices Manager does not exist on Windows 8, so the KB article needs to be modified.  Still, there seem sto be a related solution;  see the tail end of this other thread on the same subject:

Thank you jurena.ieee.org for the link to the other discussion.  I checked on my local computers here and my installation of Windows 7 and Windows 8 does not have any listings for Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter.

From additional research it appears that this maybe installed as part of a development platform introduced in Windows 7.  You can find more details at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd815243(VS.85).aspx.

If I can asked those of you who have faced this difficulty to answer the following questions.  It will help me better determine the scope of this issue:

  1. Do you participate in software development on your Windows computer which might be why this option was listed under Windows 8?
  2. Did you upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8?
  3. Which computer are you using?  Do you have a manufacturer and model number?
