Re-installing Acrobat 9.x with CS5 serial number

I'm having to re-install CS5 because of a computer crash, and while the main tools (Photoshop, etc) install fine, I cannot install Acrobat 9 Pro because it won't accept the serial number of my CS5 Master Collection.  The online help seems to just lead around in circles.

Okay so it may be six years later, but I've figured something out and had to share.

If you have the student/teacher edition of Adobe Creative Suite, I believe any edition, you had to verify you were at student at this exact web address: http://www.identit-e.com/adobe

If you have your product ID (which is clearly written on the packaging or in your email...NOT your serial number) - and you're either still a student or smart enough to figure out what email address you used when you purchased/verified (your school email address) - you can try to verify again and it will say it's already been confirmed. Then you can click to see confirmation details and VOILA, BOTH serial numbers are listed. I have not received my serial number for Acrobat Pro 9 anywhere else, so I guess this is the only place you will find it if you have the student/teacher edition

    Happy hunting!

Adobe Chat Support is a cruel joke.  I just spent nearly 3 hours -- over an hour waiting for someone to come online, and two hours of frustrating non-help.  Here is a transcript.  Bottom line: KEEP YOUR DISKS!  And/or your original invoice, unless you want to replace the product.  Customer Support is of no help in getting serial numbers, even when you register the product with Adobe on purchase.

info: You are now chatting with Shivendra Singh .

Shivendra Singh : Hello! Welcome to Adobe Customer Service.

    Shivendra Singh : Hello

S McGeady: Need to get Acrobat 9 Pro serial number -- I have 2010 CS5 Master Collection (box and online registration serial number in my account), but no serial for Acrobat. It says the CS5 serial is invalid. I am re-installing after a crash.

Shivendra Singh : Please help me with the serial number.

    S McGeady: The CS5 Serial?

S McGeady: Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection <redacted> CS5 Win May 22, 2010

S McGeady: Straight from "Registered Products" page on my Adobe ID account

    Shivendra Singh : https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/release-note/release-notes-cs5-master-collection.html

Shivendra Singh : Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection, doesn't contain Acrobat X.

Shivendra Singh : Please read the product list from the above link.

S McGeady: I'm not asking about Acrobat X, but Acrobat 9 Pro. I have the box here and it says it on the lable.

Shivendra Singh : Yes, it contains Adobe® Acrobat® 9.3 Professional.

Shivendra Singh : Where did you download the product from?

S McGeady: So why won't it accept the CS5 serial number?

Shivendra Singh : May be you have downloaded the wrong version or may have downloaded the stand alon product.

S McGeady: I downloaded Acrobat 9 Pro from Adobe website, as it says on box.

Shivendra Singh : Please help me with the download link you have downloaded it from.

    S McGeady: Don't recall -- will look.

S McGeady: File name is AcroPro90_efg.exe

    Shivendra Singh : Okay

S McGeady: It's not in the regular CS5 download.

Shivendra Singh : Then, that won't work.

S McGeady: Well, what is the right one? That's exactly what it says on the box.

Shivendra Singh : I have ?enter what you have completed? Is there anything else I can help you with?

Shivendra Singh : You need to download the Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection, CS5 and then install the Acrobat Pro 9.0 from the download and hence then use the CS5 serial number.

S McGeady: YES! I've waited over an hour. I need to know how to get Acrobat 9 running again with my CS5 serial!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    S McGeady: NO!

S McGeady: Acrobat 9 IS NOT IN THE CS5 DOWNLOAD!

S McGeady: It was a separate disk in the original install, I remember.

S McGeady: Downloaded it from here: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-8-9-product-downloads.html

    S McGeady: Precisely, here: http://trials2.adobe.com/dlm/Applications/Acrobat/APRO/9/trials/AcroPro90_efg.exe

S McGeady: That is the only Acrobat 9 Pro download on Adobe's site.

Shivendra Singh : Okay, please check the link I have sent you. There you can see the product list CS5 master collection includes.

S McGeady: I downloaded it and ran the installer. It does NOT include Acro 9 or any Acrobat.

S McGeady: Look here: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/install-creative-suite-5.html -- "(Only in CS5 is Acrobat 9 installed with a separate serial number and installation media. In CS5.5, the Acrobat installation process is incorporated into the installer.)"

Shivendra Singh : Okay, that is quite helpful.

Shivendra Singh : Then you must have had the separate serial for the same.

Shivendra Singh : Did you get the separate serial?

S McGeady: I no longer can find the original disks, so I don't know what the separate Acrobat 9 Pro serial is, and it's not in the Products section of my Adobe ID account. That's what I said at the beginning.

Shivendra Singh : Please come with the proof of purchase of the product and then we will escalate the case to our seniors.

S McGeady: I do have the box the CS5 came in, but not the disks, so I have the hologram barcode on the bottom.

S McGeady: Box bottom says PN 65074576 and then the number "<redacted>" Will post photo in a sec.

Shivendra Singh : No help with these numbers.

S McGeady: What do you need?

Shivendra Singh : Proof of purchase.

S McGeady: What is that? The email I got when I bought it? It's in my Adobe ID account.

Shivendra Singh : Do you have the proof of purchase?

S McGeady: Your file was successfully uploaded: cs5.jpg.

S McGeady: The label on the bottom of box?

S McGeady: Just sent photo of that.

S McGeady: Hello? Is that what you wanted?

Shivendra Singh : To submit more questions or view case status via Adobe's web portal, please visit www.adobe.com/go/supportportal.  You will need your Adobe ID to log in.

Shivendra Singh : Please go through the above link and attach the proof of purchase, we can not help without the proof of purchase.

S McGeady: Wait.. How do I get a serial number -- we've passed the 2 hour mark and I've got nothing. In last chat I was told to de-install and re-install -- that took many hours. You haven't helped me at all. What do I do now?

S McGeady: Was the photo I just sent you the Proof of Purchase?

Shivendra Singh : No, you must have been given the invoice when you purchased the product.

Shivendra Singh : Please come with the proof of purchase and then we will escalate the case.

S McGeady: This product is from 2010 -- I don't have an invoice anymore -- but I have the physical box! WTF! And I registered the product at the time. Who do I call -- what do I do?

Shivendra Singh : Please contact the reseller and they will help you with the invoice, without the proof of purchase, I can not help with the serial number help.

S McGeady: I bought it directly from Adobe -- no reseller.

Shivendra Singh : Do you have the product order number?

S McGeady: Where would I find that? On the box? Otherwise, no.

    Shivendra Singh : Okay

Shivendra Singh : Do you have any other email?

S McGeady: Not from 2010 -- new email system since then.

Shivendra Singh : I need you to come back with the order number, you must have been given the order number and would have been emailed.

Shivendra Singh : I need you provide the order the number.

S McGeady: But I have the registered product in my Adobe ID. Can I get order numbers from that? It was registered in May 2010.

Shivendra Singh : No, I can not find it under this adobe id.

S McGeady: Your file was successfully uploaded: Adobe-CS5.JPG.

S McGeady: Right there in enclosed photo.

Shivendra Singh : No help from this,

Shivendra Singh : I will escalate the issue, please refer this case number for the further use.

Shivendra Singh : 0215830373, is the case number.

S McGeady: WHY NOT. Bought product in 2010. Registered in 2010. Have been using it ever since. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

Shivendra Singh : Please follow up the case after 2-3 days.

S McGeady: Follow up? Why? What difference will another 2-3 days make? WTF?

Shivendra Singh : I will escalate the case to my seniors, please wait for another 2-3 days.

S McGeady: Thank you for the most frustrating and wasted 2.5 hours of my life.

Shivendra Singh : You are welcome.

Went to the adobe www.identit-e.com/adobe site. Entered Product code from Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Master Collection stamp on inside of CD case. DOESN'T VERIFY AS VALID!!!!!!   Stupid Acrobat DC blew away my Acrobat and now I can't get it back!!!! I've wasted so much time on this I wish I never had a Creative Cloud upgrade. 5.5 worked fine.

The CS5 serial number can only be used with the Suite, meaning Acrobat would have to be installed thru the Suite.  If that is what you are trying to do rather than trying to install it as a separate application then you are right to be looking for help.

Per: Install Adobe Creative Suite 5 or 5.5, "Most CS5 products come with separate installers for Acrobat 9 Professional".  It did not install when I re-installed the suite.  I downloaded a separate installer.  Don't know how to make it work again and need it ASAP.

    Per the same instructions...
To install Acrobat 9 Pro, follow these steps:
    • Insert the Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Application DVD disc into your DVD drive.
    • Do one of the following:
      • Windows: Navigate to the root directory of your DVD drive and double-click the Setup.exe file to begin installation. Follow the onscreen instructions to install Acrobat 9 Pro. When prompted for a serial number, enter your Adobe Acrobat 9 serial number and complete the installation.
      • Mac OS: Drag the Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro folder into your Applications folder. After the files are copied, launch Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro. When prompted, enter your Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro serial number.

If you do not have the separate disc with its own serial number then you likely do not fall under the separate install criteria, or you need to find that disc or serial number (check your account online).

I guess I'm not being clear.

    1) I have a CS5 (downloaded, no DVD) installation with a valid serial number -- those tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, etc) are installed correctly;

    2) Acrobat is not included in the CS5 downloaded installation kit;

    3) The separately downloaded Acrobat does not accept the CS5 serial number;

    4) There is only the one (CS5) serial in my online Adobe account.

It's possible that I bought Acrobat separately (it was 5 years ago!), but I don't have an email with a separate serial number for it.

This is on a Windows 7 x64 machine.  Specific error is "Invalid Serial Number".
