re-installing Adobe CS 6 (Student/Teacher Edition) on a new computer

I purchased CS 6 a couple of years ago (not the subscription), and just got a new mac computer. I want to install on the new computer. Do I need to download the creative cloud desktop app to install? I found the download files in my order, and downloaded the dmg file, but it just kind of blinks and doesn't do anything when I try to open it.

    Correct answer kglad

Go to the link kglad posted and do what it says to install your OLD program on the NEW and 'not really compatible' Sierra

per above, that initialize issue can be resolved by following this, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/install-creative-suite-mac-os-sierra.html

no, you need to download the installation files.  education files are not publically available.  contact your school.

I have already downloaded the installation files (I am a home educator, don't need to contact my school), and now it says "Installer failed to initialize. This could be due to a missing file. Please download Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem."

When I click "get adobe support advisor" it takes me to the Adobe Support page, and I don't know where to go from here.
(I looked under "Download Creative Suite 6/non-subscriptions, but it basically just says to download and click on the installer - which i've done and it won't install: Download Adobe Creative Suite 6 applications )

Just to clarify: I'm downloading creative suite 6 (student/teacher edition) on a mac os sierra. This is the second computer I'm trying to install the files on after my older mac was recently damaged.
