Remove unwanted Creative Cloud installed when updating CS6 (Mac)
I use several CS6 applications on my Mac (currently OS X 10.10.5, updating to El Capitan imminently), and today I downloaded some updates when prompted by Adobe. (I do not use any Creative Cloud products or services, not do I intend to.)
After installing, I discovered that a folder called "Creative Cloud" had been created and added to the "Favorites" in my Finder sidebar. When I deleted the folder, a dialog box appeared asking me to recreate it, but didn't identify what program had generated the dialog box! (I chose not to recreate it.) Adobe had also added a new item to my menu bar.
Why has this software been installed on my computer? What other changes has it made? How can I undo those changes and remove this unwanted software?
I have noticed that there is now an "/Applications/Adobe Creative Cloud" directory on my computer that, thankfully, includes an uninstaller (though the uninstaller is actually located a "/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Creative Cloud/Utils/Creative Cloud Uninstaller.app"). However, given preceding events, I don't feel confident that the uninstaller will actually remove all of the unwanted software Adobe may have silently installed on my computer.
More to the point, how to I ensure that this doesn't happen again whenever I next install an update for my CS6 software?
I am especially upset by this because I tried to carefully read just what I was installing (even clicking "read more" or whatever the link said), and I encountered absolutely no warning that Adobe was going to make these changes to my computer, nor any way to opt out of them. To me, that seems shockingly close to the definition of malware. I would have hoped Adobe would have become more responsible about such issues, given the incident in 2010 when they silently installed Growl to display promotional messages.
I hope someone can explain everything that was installed or modified, how I can remove/undo it, and how I can keep it from happening again.
