Remove unwanted Creative Cloud installed when updating CS6 (Mac)

I use several CS6 applications on my Mac (currently OS X 10.10.5, updating to El Capitan imminently), and today I downloaded some updates when prompted by Adobe. (I do not use any Creative Cloud products or services, not do I intend to.)

After installing, I discovered that a folder called "Creative Cloud" had been created and added to the "Favorites" in my Finder sidebar. When I deleted the folder, a dialog box appeared asking me to recreate it, but didn't identify what program had generated the dialog box! (I chose not to recreate it.) Adobe had also added a new item to my menu bar.

Why has this software been installed on my computer? What other changes has it made? How can I undo those changes and remove this unwanted software?

I have noticed that there is now an "/Applications/Adobe Creative Cloud" directory on my computer that, thankfully, includes an uninstaller (though the uninstaller is actually located a "/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Creative Cloud/Utils/Creative Cloud Uninstaller.app"). However, given preceding events, I don't feel confident that the uninstaller will actually remove all of the unwanted software Adobe may have silently installed on my computer.

More to the point, how to I ensure that this doesn't happen again whenever I next install an update for my CS6 software?

I am especially upset by this because I tried to carefully read just what I was installing (even clicking "read more" or whatever the link said), and I encountered absolutely no warning that Adobe was going to make these changes to my computer, nor any way to opt out of them. To me, that seems shockingly close to the definition of malware. I would have hoped Adobe would have become more responsible about such issues, given the incident in 2010 when they silently installed Growl to display promotional messages.

I hope someone can explain everything that was installed or modified, how I can remove/undo it, and how I can keep it from happening again.

I'm sorry but this process is ridiculous. Its clearly set up to hide malicious tracking software Adobe hides on your computer even after uninstall. Having followed the recommended uninstall process I find there are still hidden Adobe processes ticking away collecting data.

I'm glad I decided to move away from Adobe software after the greedy price gouges and this confirms my suspicions that Adobe are not a brand to be trusted.

I appreciate your reply to my inquiry. I have some follow-up questions.

When I ran Creative Cloud Desktop Uninstaller, this error appeared: "Couldn't uninstall Creative Cloud for desktop. You still have Creative Cloud applications on your computer that require it." This was a surprise to me, as I had not knowingly installed any Creative Cloud applications. When I launched the "Creative Cloud" application itself, it listed one application (Acrobat DC) under "latest versions." This I have no objection to uninstalling, as I never intended to install it.

However, it also lists my CS6 applications under the heading "Previous Versions," and one of them — InDesign CS6 — is listed as having an update available for download. This prompted several questions for me:

  • Am I only able to uninstall the Creative Cloud Desktop App if I uninstall my CS6 applications? That would be unacceptable.
  • If not, would I loose the ability to continue to receive updates to my CS6 applications if I uninstall the Creative Cloud Desktop App?
  • I see in Activity Monitor that there are three process running in the background, even when the app is completely closed and not included in the OS X menu bar: "Adobe Desktop Service," "Core Sync," and "Core Sync Helper." If I in fact need to use the Creative Cloud Desktop App to receive updates for my CS6 applications, can I prevent it from running these processes in the background? As I've said, I don't store anything on Adobe's servers, nor do I want to, so these background processes are consuming my computing power to do nothing; they are what I most fundamentally object to.
