I have the CS3 design suit on my desktop computer. I am hoping to sell my desktop as I have recently bought a new laptop and I am looking to install the original software on my laptop. Unfortunately I do not have the serial number and my online Adobe ID shows no reference to me having the program. I have gone into the settings of photoshop on my desktop and have found a serial number. Unfortunately it is only 20 digits as opposed to 24. How do I go about finding my 24 digit serial number?
Many thanks
Luke
Hi Luke
If you are on a Mac navigate to:
Macintosh HD >> Library >> Application Support >> regid.1986-12.com.adobe
Inside the folder “regid.1986-12.com.adobe” you will probably find several files ending .swidtag
For example:
regid.1986-12.com.adobe_DesignSuitePremium-CS5-Mac-GM-en_US.swidtag
Look for the one related to your product and right-click (control-click) on it and choose:
Open With >> Other
Then choose TextEdit from the list of applications.
For registered products the 24 digit serial number is

For the machine that still has the software installed, to get the serial number...
If it's a Windows machine then try running Belarc Advisor

For a Mac you can try:

Than you for this. I have been searching for 2 full days to find my serial number as I need to copy CS6 from a very old mac to my new mac. No idea who worked here previously or who would have ordered it so it's been a challenge to say the least. I found this really easily after following your instructions (Thank you) but Adobe tell me it's not a valid serial number when I contacted them to have them connect it to our business account to avoid this nightmare in future. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if I can install it but I'm terrified it'll lock me out of InDesign and other CS6 programs if I deactivate it on the old mac first. What are your thoughts? How could it possibly be wrong?

Yes if you deactivate it you will lock yourself out.

Also, you will have a problem installing CS6 on a new Mac
CS6 and earlier programs HAVE NOT BEEN TESTED AND WILL NOT BE UPDATED for Mac El Capitan or newer operating systems
-which means that you try to use CS6 and earlier at YOUR risk of having problems due to Apple updates
-this is about CS6 (which is from 2012) but it will probably apply to other programs of that age
-Apple did not maintain backward compatibility with old programs in El Capitan or newer operating systems
--Adobe has a workaround to Apple's problem of not maintaining backward compatibility
