Serial number for LR2 on Mac OS X (10.6.8) does not work.

After a hard drive replacement, I am trying to re-install Lightroom 2 on my iMac. (It's an Intel Core 2 Duo running OS X 10.6.8.) The serial number does not work, which prevents me from being able to start the software (or register to get past the 30 day trial).

I tried using the original install disc. Because I no longer have the original box, I had to get a new serial number from Adobe support. In an online chat, I was assured that this serial number is valid. All I see is a red "X" next to the number, and the "Next" button is greyed out.

I also tried downloading and installing versions 2.1 and 2.7 from Adobe's website (Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh), but neither of these installs would accept the serial number as valid.

If anyone has an idea why the software won't register a (supposedly valid) serial number, please help. I need to continue using this version of Lightroom, because I do not have the budget to upgrade my computer in order to run a newer version of LR.

    Thanks for this suggestion.

In the Application Support>Adobe folder, there is no Adobe PCD folder. The only file in there is a folder called "CameraRaw".

Using Spotlight, I searched for any file with "cache.db" in the filename. Found none.

    EDIT: I did find cache.db in Library>caches>com.adobe.Lightroom2

I'll try renaming this with the "-old" suffix and see what happens.

I think I've resolved the problem, by finding and entering my original serial number rather than the new (nonworking) one Adobe tech support provided me with today.

In my backup of the old hard drive, I found a text file called "Lightroom 2.0 Registration" in the folder Library>Application Support>Adobe>Lightroom.

In this file, the serial number is clearly labeled. After launching Lightroom, I entered this number as the serial number/license and got the green check-mark.

Hopefully this will work as a permanent license, and not just a 30-day trial.

    Thanks again for your suggestions.

Have you installed any other Adobe apps on your  computer ?

Not yet... none that I know of, at least. I just did a clean install of OS X 10.6.8. After MS Office, Firefox and Chrome, Lightroom is the next application I've tried to install.

    1) Right click on Finder icon and  select "Go-To" Folder option.
    2) You will get a text box, type-in below command and then hit 'Return' key.

    /library

It will open System Library folder.

3)Then navigate to Application Support>Adobe>Adobe PCD > Cache.

Open Cache folder and rename Cache.db to Cache.db-old.

Then launch LR 2 and try to activate and check.
