I hope that you can help!?
I need to transfer CS5 from my old mac to my new mac.
My CS5 was purchased at my university in 2010. I have no disk or product key.
My old and new macs are running OS Sierra.
Help Please! To repurchase really isn't an option but i need the program for my work.
I have been trying on and off for months now. If i go to download the software to my new mac, when I try to open the file i just get a warning message:
"Warning
the following disk images couldnt be opened
Design standard CS5- not recognised"
You help is very much appreciated.

Download and Installation Help -
https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install.html
Download Adobe Creative Suite 5 products
Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra)
For a Mac, on the old machine you can try: Mac Product Key Finder. Recover lost product keys for Mac applications
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2174645 shows how to find it directly...
If you are on a Mac navigate to:
Macintosh HD >> Library >> Application Support >> regid.1986-12.com.adobe
Inside the folder “regid.1986-12.com.adobe” you will probably find several files ending .swidtag
For example: regid.1986-12.com.adobe_DesignSuitePremium-CS5-Mac-GM-en_US.swidtag
Look for the one related to your product and right-click (control-click) on it and choose:
Open With >> Other
Then choose TextEdit from the list of applications.
For registered products the 24 digit serial number is usually found near the bottom of the text document.

Thank you Ned,
I have found my Adobe Serial number. One box ticked!
I am still having the same issue downloading CS5 though? It downloads but then I just cannot open the installation file. Any Ideas what might be happening here? I just get the message;
"Warning
the following disk images couldnt be opened
Design standard CS5- not recognised"
Many thanks
Laura

CS6 and earlier programs have not been tested and will not be updated for Mac El Capitan/Sierra
-which means that you try to use CS6 and earlier at YOUR risk of having problems

Hi John
CS5 is running on my old mac with OS Sierra with no problems.
I have tried to install CS5 onto my new mac using the instructions in the link you gave but I'm having trouble interpreting the instructions, because I've still had no luck installing and am faced with the same warning message.
Would it be at all possible to discuss this issue over in instant messaging program. I dont feel this is going to be solved via the forum.
Many thanks
Laura

I am on Windows and only posted that information based on previous Mac messages
Adobe no longer supports CS6 and earlier, so all I can suggest is to find someone local to help with the work around steps

Laura did you have any specific questions regarding the workaround linked to by John Smith in message #3? Were you able to open the Application Package? Have you dragged the Install Unix Executable to the open Terminal window?
John is correct that we no longer offer direct installation support for Creative Suite 5. If you have any questions regarding the process you are welcome to update this discussion.
If you can post a screen shot of any confusion you are facing it would be beneficial. You can find details on how to post a screen shot at FAQ: How do I capture and post a screen shot or video?.

Hi Jeff
Yes, I seem to be having problems with the 'workaround' link. Maybe I am misinterpreting it?
I right click on the downloaded file then click on disk image mounter- then am faced with a warming message saying that the file isn't recognised?
Thanks
Laura

Thanks for posting the screen shot Laura. Yes you need to first double click on the Design Standard DMG file. It is a Disk Image file and must first be mounted. Once the DMG file is visible on your desktop, similar to a hard drive, then you double click on the DMG to open it. Then you will be able to select the Install package to open it.

Ok thanks for the update Laura. It appears the DMG is corrupt if it is not able to be mounted successfully. If you have already downloaded the installation files from Download Adobe Creative Suite 5 products. Then you can try downloading the installation files from Download Adobe CS5 Free Trials – All Direct Links without Akamai | ProDesignTools .
If you continue to receive the error that Design Standard DMG file is not recognized then I would recommend using an alternate Internet connection. You can download the DMG file to a USB drive, on an alternate computer or network connection, and then install on this computer.
Once the DMG is mounted successfully you can then implement the workaround available at Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra) .

Hi Jeff
Well, I managed to get a little further this time, but not quite there yet.
I downloaded CS5 Design Standard from Download Adobe CS5 Free Trials – All Direct Links without Akamai | ProDesignTools .
Followed instructions from the link Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra) .
I drag the exec install icon into the terminal window as instructed, hit return but the file didn't install. (See screen shot)

Excellent Laura you are almost there! Please make sure that you are opening the Install.app package and then browsing the Install Unix Executable. The last screen shot in Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra) is what you will see after dragging the Install Unix Executable from the package to the Terminal window.
Once the installation begins you will be asked for your Mac OS User account password to begin the installation process. Please be aware it is normal behavior for Terminal to give no indication that the password has been entered. Once you have entered the password you will then want to hit the Enter key to submit the password.
Let me know if you have any other questions Laura. The screen shots you are including are useful for me to know where you are at.
