Trapped Into Paying 47.99 Cancellation Fee Adobe is Sad

Things must be really bad at Adobe as I am continually reading about there horrible terms of service and them constantly trapping people into auto-renewals and cancellation fees.  What is sad about this is that they have great tools and many of the people that are using them are kids who are trying to get their creative careers started and have little money to begin with. I'm pretty sure every other company I have subscribed to has never charged a 50% cancellation fee, especially when they're the ones who automatically renew my membership. By the way, I never checked the auto-renewal box because who does? Adobe will say "I am so sorry to hear this please read our Terms of Service." And then they will proceed to attach some link with 1000 pages of small print that would take hours on end to read. The point is that this type of thing lacks the moral value that you would expect a company like Adobe to have. Adobe are things that bad that you must repeatedly trap people into paying outrageous fees?

Hi Douglas,

When you sign up for Creative Cloud, all plans clearly state in their names either "Annual" or "Monthly":

Creative Cloud pricing and membership plans | Adobe Creative Cloud

And you say the that Adobe's Terms of Service is "1000 pages of small print that would take hours on end to read" – but is that really true?  Here are the exact terms copied-and-pasted from the checkout process when buying an Annual plan:

Subscription and cancellation terms

Service begins as soon as your initial payment is processed. You'll be charged the rate stated at the time of purchase, plus applicable taxes (such as value added tax when the stated rate doesn't include VAT), every month for the duration of your annual contract. If the applicable VAT rate (or other included tax or duty) changes during your one-year term, the tax-inclusive price will adjust accordingly. Your contract will renew automatically, on your annual renewal date, until you cancel. Renewal rates are subject to change, but you will be notified of any change in your rate with the option to cancel in accordance with these terms. If you cancel within 14 days of your initial order, you'll be fully refunded. Should you cancel after 14 days, you'll be charged 50% of your remaining contract obligation and your service will continue until the end of that month's billing period. Cancellations can be made any time by visiting your Manage Account page* or by contacting Customer Support.

* Specific countries require cancellations to be made only by contacting Customer Support, see list of countries here.

Wake up. Read the book "the Corporation", and you will understand that most corporations are driven by a pathological pursuit of profit and power, and behave like a perfect sociopath with little or no empathy.

And as long as humans and governments allow for this, and actually empower corporations to behave like this, well: we have but ourselves to blame. We made our bed, and now have to sleep in it.

auto-renewal without an opt-out (or better, opt-in) is a valid issue (imo).

Re: a cancellation fee; i don't know of any annual contract/lease that allows early termination without penalty.  that's not saying they don't exist but you can't expect to sign-up for an annual subscription and pay a lower monthly fee (than a monthly subscription) and expect to cancel at any time without penalty.  eg, i don't think i can cancel my office lease and just pay a penalty.  i'm obligated to pay the full lease amount even if i no longer need the office and vacate the premises.

The point is I never clicked annual subscription they automatically signed me up. Take a look at other forums about the same topic. And comparing housing/office leasing to an online software program is not very effective although the logic was there.
