Update Failures - code 146

Latest CC updates fail on my MacBook Pro with High Sierra 10.13.2 for all 4 apps involved. Sample message for Premier Pro:

Exit Code: 146

-------------------------------------- Summary --------------------------------------

- 2 fatal error(s), 0 error(s), 1 warnings(s)

FATAL: Error (Code = 146) executing in command 'MoveDirectoryCommand' for package: 'AdobePremierePro12AllTrial', version:12.0.1.69

FATAL: Error occurred in install of package (Name: AdobePremierePro12AllTrial Version: 12.0.1.69). Error code: '146'

WARN: Failed to move directory '/.adobeTemp/92FC75F2-1B69-48A8-BD3D-C45864572246/1/universal/App' to '/System/Library/Components/IOFWDVComponents.component/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2018'

My guess is that something is wrong with the install package. Is this a widespread problem? Is Adobe working on a fix?

Follow below steps :

Brucgovn, the suggestions you posted won't work on a Mac.

What has worked so far is uninstalling the apps and then re-installing with the latest version. Accomplishing this was fairly easy with the Creative Cloud desktop app, since the buttons for each of the balky apps exposed an uninstall option... except for Audition. For that one I had to go into the Applications folder and click on the uninstall app for Audition. The new version installed properly and, thankfully, its button on the CC desktop now includes an uninstall option.

I wouldn't call this a fix. It's a work-around. Hopefully other people could use the same solution for now and hopefully Adobe will take notice of this glitch, discover its cause, and not allow the problem to come up with further upgrades.

I have the same problem with High Sierra, so it might be a more widespread problem. I hope Adobe has a fix soon.

Experiencing the same updating problems with Premiere Pro and After Effects on Mac with High Sierra. Suggestions about deleting, changing file names & changing permissions do not work on High Sierra. Adobe Support please address this problem.

If you have any AntiVirus or Other Malware security suites installed on Mac, Turn it OFF temporarily .

Clear /tmp folder.

Then try to update via Adobe Creative Cloud application.

Still same???

For testing File/ Folder permissions for the target path , follow below steps:

  • Enable Root user account.
  • Sign out Current user profile and restart the machine.
  • Login as Root user .
  • Then try to update the app , via Adobe Creative Cloud application.

Thanks, Bricgovn, but no cigar. No antivirus, /tmp folder cleared, same error; rebooted, logged-in as root user, cleared /tmp, tried to update via CC, same result: Exit Code 146 when trying to update After Effects CC (not Premiere Pro, this time around). Each time /tmp acquires two pairs of directories with identical names except for ending with "_IN" or "_OUT" and two more directories... these 6 having different names with each go-around, but apparently related to the update process.

In short, the problem persists unchanged. Hard to believe I'm the only user experiencing this problem. Previous upgrades on this machine, albeit with earlier version of OS used to go without a hitch.
