Updates for CS6

Community Beginner ,
Jan 12, 2019 Jan 12, 2019

I have Creative Suite 6 that I have reinstalled on a new (Windows 10) computer.  After launching the Adobe Application Manager, there are a number of updates needed.  The only required update is the one for AAM itself.  Unfortunately, after installing this update, I ended up with a bunch of Creative Cloud software installed offering me free trials, etc.  I'm not interested in any CC items nor do I want any CC software on my computer.

I have been able to successfully locate, download, and install all but four of the required updates.  I'm hoping that someone can provide direct links to the Windows versions of these updates.  This is how each of them appear in AAM...

  • Adobe CSXS InfrastructureCS6
  • Touch App Plugin Update for Adobe Illustrator CS6
  • Touch App Plugin Update for Adobe Illustrator CS6 (64-bit)
  • DPS Desktop Tools CS6 for Adobe InDesign CS6

Thank you very much for any help locating these updates.

I got the installers I needed but not without a fight.  I ended up installing a trial version of CS6, letting it "upgrade" Adobe Application Manager to the Creative Cloud version, and then snapping up the install files from the temporary folder that the CC updater stores them in during installation.  Really a PITA...IMO, these installers should all be available for download.

So then, getting the updates is NOT DOABLE is it? Why do you say that it is, when there is no way to locate the updates. Us legacy users just need a link to the updates, not support help with the software. We purchased the software with aperpetual license, meaning you could purchase a copy and use it indefinitely. This was the case for all the different Creative Suite 6 versions (e.g., Master Collection, Design & Web Premium, Production Premium). However, Adobe stopped selling CS6 and moved to a subscription-based model.

Frustrated with a good company I’ve supported and used for years.

correct, no updates are supplied unless they're linked in your account.

The question then (which you have not bothered to answer) is WHY are the updates NOT linked in my, and countless other legacy owner's accounts, when we are the legal owners and purchasers of the software?  There’s absolutely no logical explanation to this other than  Adobe is either  ineptitude in taking care of their clients and has simply forgot the terms of the perpetual license agreement  (which becomes a legal issue as mentioned by others) or they intentionally are not allowing their legacy users access to updates they need to force them to purchase newer CC subscriptions.

The latter simply won’t work for legacy computer owners who are hardware and OS limited. I would gladly pay the monthly fee if I could run their latest software on my computers, but I have thousands of dollars invested in hardware that works perfectly fine (8 processor 3.46Ghz XEON, 48GB RAM  and 20TB of RAID memory on three monitors). So, I’m supposed to give this all up and buy new Apple or Window computers, so I can run the latest Photoshop?

There are alternatives like GIMP and other imaging software from Sony, etc. At least the software is currently working, even though the Deactivate/Reactivate system appears broken.  CS5 is working on High Sierra too (even though it’s a bit buggy and I can’t print from it without the updates) which allows me to have Photoshop running on 4 computers, two each on CS5 and CS6, all being able to read and write PSD files from one computer to the other.

Thankfully there's Superduper cloning software and multiple backups if there’s a hardware failure.

I thrown in the towel on getting support for my “Perpetual”  license.

Shame on you Adobe.

>CS3, CS4, and CS5 activation servers offline

Not true... or only partly true

The CS2-CS3-CS4 activation servers have been removed from service

Apologies, my mistake. CS2, CS3, CS4 is correct.

But still thimk it's dishonest to make the claim

"The aging activation servers for those apps had to be retired."

like they where old and rickety. Just absolute B.S.

It seems to me that each of those so-called old servers could have easily been put on a cloud servers to extend the life of those versions or just release them to the open source community so those who couldnt afford them could get experince using them.

Those old versions still work in Windows 10 and could also work in Windows 11 via a VM.

Probably would work better for users if they did install them in a VM. Assigning 4 Cores to a windows XP VM would make the old versions super fast.

I don't believe they were retired entirely for technical reasons. More legal.

In regards to Deactivate/Activate, I followed the correct procedures and hit the deactivate button on my primary laptop and it verified. After I was finished cloning my system to my other laptops, I attempted a re-activate on my primary laptop. It was greyed out. I contacted Adobe tech support, they said it doesn’t always work and that they no longer support the CS5 or  CS6 programs. There was no way to check things out and no way to download the updates should I need them. When going to my account for the two programs, it acknowledged the CS5 and CS6 Creative suite belonged to me and I could download the original installers, which I did (I only needed the CS5 since I had the DVD installers, but I download the digital file too and installed. Everything went smooth except there was no link to any of the required updates for High Sierra 10.13.6 . After much inquiry, Adobe Tech said the updates are no longer available and there is no support to put them back up.  The link they gave me to solve the probelm was just for the originall istaller, not any updates. As many other users have found out, the autoupdate feature does not work either.  It will download the files, but says there’s an error in installing them.

This all came from Adobe tech support for the Creative Suites. Quite  honestly, this is a hard to believe,. Even  updates on all 3rd party web sites have been taken down everywhere as far as i could find.  Why not make the updates available along with the main software installers on users account pages like they did with the primary CS5 and CS6 main software installers.  I don't get it.  Something doesn't smell right.  It would be nothing for Adobe to make the updates available for legacy software users, especially when there are many of us who can't update our computer OS's to run the CC versions.

yes, the FTP server only contains updates to two of the fifteen+ CS6 application suite programs (Acrobat and Photoshop), and I already was able to obtain these two dmg files through another source; I think it is going to be someone uploading them from their personal backups...

It 'might' be possible to download the files through archive.org, though it might take some time.
