    >wonder if I can use my old version of adobe programmes

CS6 and earlier programs have not been tested and will not be updated for Mac El Capitan/Sierra

-which means that you try to use CS6 and earlier at YOUR risk of having problems

Serial number programs are no longer sold, so if your old program will not work with Sierra, you will need a Cloud Subscription

-EXCEPT Adobe Elements bundle | Adobe Photoshop Elements 15 & Adobe Premiere Elements 15 work with Sierra

Owners of old programs simply have problems with Mac El Capitan/Sierra... none of which is Adobe's fault... Adobe did not change your old program to make it stop working... Apple changed their operating system and THAT is why your old programs may not work, not because of anything Adobe did... Also... every time Apple issues an update, there is the risk that an old program that HAS been working will STOP working... bottom line, old programs require a matching old operating system

I see the headline in my post is wrong, don't know how it appered! I don't look for mye old seriesnumber, I only wonder if I can use my old version of adobe programmes and update them, or if I have to buy adobe photoshop and illustrator again? Paid a lot of money back in 2008, don't want to pay again.

Since you still have not provided computer & operating system information, all I can say is go back and read the last line on my reply #2

Lost information - see reply #1 in https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2008767

    - page has links to programs to find an installed serial number in Mac or Windows

    - includes link to your Adobe account to check for registered serial numbers

    - when you find your serial number(s) write them down and put in a desk drawer

If you have a compatible computer (Mac Sierra and Windows 10 are most likely NOT compatible) you may install and use

Serial number is version specific , only work for one particular version.

Now latest version is subscription based.
