Question

Will Photoshop Elements or Lightroom run on OS 9? [was: An upgrade or a downgrade?]

I was considering buying my husband lightroom or photoshop elements for Xmas. He is currently using photoshop cs 8.0. He hasn't purchased a new cs because of the cost. It's out of our budget and he doesn't like subscription software. Does either program have any advantages over the old cs version. He mainly uses it to edit family photos and occasionally design a poster. Are there any other mac compatible programs you would recommend instead of Lightroom or elements?

thanks!

Which Mac and operating system is your current Mac?

Presumably your husband has an old Mac since Photoshop CS is a PowerPC application which does not install or run on modern Intel-based Macs.

So Lightroom and Elements (which require current Macs and operating systems) will probably not install or run on your current older Mac.

Check the system requirements before you spend any money

II think it is running OS 9. We bought it about 5 yrs ago. It's the first one where everything is in the monitor (after that goofy version with the moving screen that looked like a face).

Sounds about right. That'll run Photoshop CS.

However save your money on new software. No current versions of Adobe software will install or run on OS 9.

Photoshop Elements requires at least 10.8.

Lightroom won't run on anything older than 10.7.
