Work at Home

I thought I would share an amusing moment in this fiasco.

I just received an email from Adobe to renew my "work at home" license

I work for the  Education Department where the software is supplied under license to teachers... Thumbs up !!

I also work at home, believe it or not as most teacher do, outside of school hours, so I paid Adobe for a 'work at home licence'. (Discounted .. Great.. thank you adobe)

A few months ago Adobe changed their licensing model which has combined my work license with my additionally paid 'work at home license', as the email address is the same. (Adobe Policy)

There are many teachers in the same boat as I am over the same issue. I witnessed one teacher on the phone for 3 hrs with no resolve but at least he got his daily dose of Adobe doesn't care and now has pure and unadulterated hatred for Adobe support.

Enough of my ramblings, here is the rub for me. In the middle of a class, I had to open a pdf document.. Not that hard for most people I hear you say, but Adobe says... "You must sign in"  or you shall not pass. FFS a pdf ????  After 2 minutes of the usual enter this enter that bla bla bla, it then needed the SMS code sent to my phone.

Guess what.. Surprise Surprise I don't take my phone into a lesson nor does most teachers out of respect. So after finding another acrobat reader alternative , I could finally see the students work... Yippeee  Well done Adobe, you have taken a considerable learning time  off my class of students with your new licensing model but I won't speak on behalf of other students &  teachers you have failed with your lack of forethought and policy.

Getting back to your original email  about renewing my work at home license. I will think about that after you call me to refund the $$ I have paid for a service you did not provide but as the other staff has said... Don't hold your breath... Adobe does not give a F$%k about education.

Looking forward to your call (You have my mobile number as you texted me with the code )

I know of teachers where the phones are quiet during class hours. That's programmable by an app if my information is correct. 2 factor authentication is a very important security feature!

As for the rest, I'm sorry, but I didn't understand what happened. But I suppose anyhow this was not a call for help but a general consideration of some caveats with the Adobe eco system.

Thank you Abambo for taking the time time to reply

Unfortunately despite my tongue in check post, most people would miss the point.

I am getting request for $$ for a service that is not being supplied as are my fellow teachers and they feel trapped..

I know my colleagues are at their wits end with opening a document. For me, I have a work around but someone needs to speak up as the new model does not work.

Thanks Des.

I would suggest you to reformulate without the irony around the problem description. It may be possible (or not) to find a solution if the problem is described clearly.

If the service is not provided (or needed any more) Contact Customer Care to cancel or self cancel.

OK Straight faced with no Irony or malice, I will dot point the problems as I think you may be able to solve this

I work for the Education Department of WA which has a licence for teachers to use Adobe cloud at work  (2 Stations).

I have been using adobe cloud at work for 4 years no problem

I go home, I cannot use adobe cloud unless I buy a "Work at Home License"

I bought one which gives me a new license to work at home (2 Licenses)

2 + 2 = 4

New policy says I must sign into my account to use the software but have 2 licenses yet I should have 4

So in a nutshell, The government of Australia pays for me to use 2 licenses

I personally pay you to use the software at home ( 2 Licenses) but it comes under the government license now

You send me an email to pay you to use the software at home (the extra 2 licenses) but they are the same license the government is paying for.

Every product is locked down (acrobat reader) which is free except for me who is paying twice

This is almost like a Nigerian scam.

As of my (limited) knowledge:

  • I never heard of Adobe [Creative] cloud at work but what you describe looks a lot like standard Adobe Creative Cloud. Creative Cloud can be installed on more than 2 computers but can be activated only on 2 machines at the same time. That is ONE license and use is restricted to ONE computer at the same time.
  • Under the same Adobe id you can only have once a creative cloud subscription of the same kind. So either you need to use 2 adobe id's (as I do, one for my work subscription and one for my private subscription) or you can have the products only once.
    What is http://account.adobe.com/plans showing?
  • There are workstation computer locked licences that are only usable on a licensed workstation. That is the ideal situation for classroom computers. As of my knowledge they do not need you to sign into your Adobe id, but I may err as 2019 did change licensing. If you really need to sign in, you probably should have 2 Adobe id's: one for for work site and one for your private site.
  • Acrobat reader is free and does not need an Adobe id.

You send me an email to pay you to use the software at home (the extra 2 licenses) but they are the same license the government is paying for.

FYI: I'm not Adobe. Only forum users marked STAFF and having an Adobe logo with their name are Adobe.
