Adobe Photoshop CS serial number issues

I'm trying to set up Photoshop CS for my dad with a full install disk. We used it on one computer in the past, but it was broken recently; so now we're using a new one. The problem is, when I put the serial number in, it thinks I'm trying to update a previous version of Photoshop, which I don't have. The disk is a full install disk, so I don't know why it isn't working. I think it will work if I put in a serial number from a previous version, but I can't find one that works. I'm using a Mac by the way. Thank you.

Ok. Well, forget about the disc and serial number you've got. They won't work. Adobe shut down the activation server for CS2 and earlier several years ago.

You must now download a special, non-activation version of CS2 from Download Adobe Acrobat 7 and Adobe Creative Suite 2 products

That applies to CS and CS2 owners.

Install then enter the special, non-activation serial number provided at that link. Your existing serial number will not work.

Are you trying to install Photoshop CS (version 8 from 2003)? That won't install on a modern Mac, regardless of serial number.

If not, which Creative Suite version are you trying to install? And which version of the Mac OS X operating system?

Yes, Photoshop CS 8 from 2003. I'm installing it on a Mac G4 though.
