I bought Photoshop elements 7 in 2008. I have it on my desktop and I found my product key. I downloading elements 7 on my laptop and it keeps telling me my product key isn't valid. Why is it doing this? Adobe has verified that the product key I have is still valid. Thanks in advance, I'm at a loss. I have no need to upgrade and spend the money because I don't use it daily or anything.
the serial numbers are posted next to the download links,
but pse 7 isn't part of that end-of-life page so i'm not sure what you're trying to do.
if your original post is accurate and your os is newer, you can expect problems because pse 7 isn't compatible with newer os'es.
but assuming you're using a valid adobe serial number (6 groups of 4 numbers), you have a mismatch between your installation file and serial number. ie, you can have a valid serial number, but if it's for program A and your in

You MAY have the activation problem described below
CS2 + Acrobat 7 + Audition 3 (AND EARLIER) Activation Server is gone, so read below

You MUST use the special version and serial number on the page, not your original disc or serial number

that's too old to activate. it's also likely you'll have other problems because it's incompatible with newer os'es, but you can get past that problem if you want to deal with the incompatibility problems, Download Adobe Acrobat 7 and Adobe Creative Suite 2 products
you can purchase a compatible version here, Software & Services

That's the version of cse7 that I downloaded and it's saying my product key won't work. Is there something else I need to download so it will actually accept my product key?

If you download from the special CS2 link, you MUST also use the serial number at the link... for the specific product

but assuming you're using a valid adobe serial number (6 groups of 4 numbers), you have a mismatch between your installation file and serial number. ie, you can have a valid serial number, but if it's for program A and your installation file is for program B, you will see an invalid serial number message.
common mismatches are language/region (eg, serial number is for western europe and installation file is eastern europe), platform (eg, serial number is for a mac and installation file is win), license type (eg, education vs enterprise vs individual).
and one of the most common is using a program installation file with a suite's serial number. eg, using a cs6 suite serial number with a photoshop cs6 installation file. that won't work even though photoshop is included in that suite. you must use the suite's installation file (and you can choose to only install one program from the suite).
here's official info about that error, http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-serial-number-valid-product.html
