I don't know for sure, but I _think_ the servers for activating CS4 have been taken down due to the product being way past EOL.

There may be a workaround, but I don't know what it is.

V/r,

CS4 servers are still active, CS3's servers were recently retired though.

Look at your media, does the word "Update" appear anywhere on the box or disks?

It sounds to me like you have an Update version of DW, which were the less expensive way of updating if you upgraded frequently, and no "qualifying previous version" installed.

As far as I understand it, when you have an Update version of the software, you would have to install a qualifying, older version first, then run the Update version installation.

I don't know if there's a way around that.

It might be worthwhile to post in the Downloading, Installing, Setting Up forum where the contributors have more experience getting the older versions working in modern systems.

Thank you, Jon. Have moved  this discussion to the DISU forum just in case the experts here have anything to add to whatever has been discussed.

Thanks,

That's not completely correct.  You only need to have the serial number of the version that it was upgraded from.   It will ask for that number when you are installing the upgrade version if it doesn't find the qualifying product installed.

Jean-marcb32180253, can you please clarify where you are in the process of reinstalling Creative Suite 4.  Your first post indicates you are entering a serial number, but in post #3 you are discussing deactivating Creative Suite 4.

Are you reinstalling Creative Suite 4 on the same computer?  If so, what happened to the previous installation?

If you are installing Creative Suite 4 on a new computer, do you receive an error message when installing or activating Creative Suite 4?

For more information on the activation process see Activate and deactivate Adobe products .

Hello Jeff

2 ways of installing

1: Enter serial number on setup.exe. In this case, checkbox on enter serial number is green but the next page upgrade option.ask me for other serial number I don't have.

2 install free trial version and enter serial number on start up dreamviewre. In this way, the same serial number is refused !

The serial number is valuable and essential. You must find it somehow.

Hello "Test Screen Name",

I think this is the responsability of Adobe to list ALL licence the client has in his "Account"

You can see above in the picture I've posted, we have the CS4 licence listed in our account.

So this number SHOULD work.

If not, Adobe has to insert in our account a valuable license

Yes, this number is valuable. So is the other license (perhaps to Dreamweaver CS3 or CS2) that you used to prove you could upgrade. That you must find as well. This is what a lot of software expects.

Hmm, perhaps the CS2 premium license will work. I would not expect it - you can't usually upgrade one product from a suite - but it is worth a try.

Jean-marcb32180253, my apologies for the extended delay before responding.  I was out of the office due to a family emergency.

If you wish to continue with attempting to install Dreamweaver CS4, then please send me a private message with the two serial numbers you are using, Jean-marcb32180253.  I will be happy to review the serial numbers to verify they meet the eligibility requirements to install Dreamweaver CS4.
