Unable to activate Photoshop Elements 6.0

Hi,

I seem to have become "hostage" of the removal of the activation server (Activation server shut down for Creative Suite 2, Acrobat 7, and Macromedia products ).

I have purchased Photoshop Elements (3.0 then upgraded through to 6.0). After a hard disk crash, I had to reinstall PSE, however upon activating, I get the error message "no connection". Upon lengthy discussions with Support and the link above, I understand that the activation server is no longer available. In the link above, I cannot see version 6.0, but as 5.0 and 7.0 is in the list, I hope and expect there to be a solution for 6.0 as well.

I understand that the wish is for customers to upgrade as the version I have is intended for "older platforms", however it was running fine on my setup and I was happy about it.

How do I go about to solve this to continue using my purchased (and upgraded) program for which I've invested several hours in tagging and "albuming"?

    Could it be that photoshop elements 6 was affected by the cs3 activation server shutdown, since phoshop elements 6 is based on the photoshop cs3 code base?


    It depends on the region, Jeff.  Some region/SKUs of Photoshop Elements 6 did include activation technology while others did not.  Elements 6.0 would have been affected though by the first activation server shut down. The most recent shutdown primarily affects Creative Suite 3 and Acrobat 9.0.

    Harald, I am sorry that you are unable to install and activate Photoshop Elements 6.0.  It appears the license you did purchase did include activation technology that is no longer available.

    I would recommend you utilize Photoshop and Bridge CS2 for your photo editing needs instead.  Bridge CS2 does have the ability to view the tagging you have applied in Photoshop Elements 6.0.  I would recommend asking for more details in the Bridge General Discussion forum at Bridge .

    You may also want to check with the Photoshop Elements forum if you have any questions on how to have the keywords in Photoshop Elements 6 added to the photo's metadata.  The Photoshop Elements forum is available at Photoshop Elements .

    You can find details on how to download and install the non-activating version of Creative Suite 2 in the forum discussion you referenced in your original post, Harald.  Please update this public forum discussion if you have any questions.

    Hi Jeff,

    Thanks for your reply. Pretty much the same reply as I got from support.

    Unfamiliar with Photoshop and Bridge CS2 and their long list of features, to which extent do either of them offer functionality around organizing my pictures (I would expect the editing features to be well covered)?

    My main purpose for purchasing PSE (first version 3.0, then upgrading to 4.0 and 6.0) was to organize my pictures and make them available to my family members both through albums and searchable through tags. Not having this feature, the replacement in Photoshop and Bridge CS2 would not meet my original requirements and reason for purchasing PSE, and I would request serial number for, at least, version 7.0 (as it seems that my only "mistake" here is to upgrade to 6.0 which seems to be one of the few versions with the activation technology included) so that I can continue to use PSE as I have up until now.

    Harold, I am sorry, but only Creative Suite 2 was made available for any software titles that were affected by the activation server shutdown that occurred in 2013.
