Cannot connect to ftp

Hi Community

I recently moved to a new webhost company and I'm trying to connect to their ftp server.

I've tried through FileZilla and it connects without a problem so I know the user name and password and ftp address are correct.

I've deleted the sites that were connected to the previous host provider, I've deleted Dreamweaver from the mac book pro and reinstalled it, I've tried disabling the firewall, deselecting and selecting Use Passive FTP.

Still no joy. I've attached a screen shot of the error message I'm getting.

Any advice please?

Thanks in advance for your help

    It's hard to say.

    • Who is your host?
    • Have you contacted your hosting provider to ensure everything is OK on their end?
    • Are you connecting with FTP, SFTP or FTP over SSL/TLS connections?
    • Can you connect to other servers on other web hosts?
    • When connection fails, what do your FTP logs say?

    Hi All!

I've found a solution with the support of my web host company, Snaphost.

The settings needed to be changed to:

Connect using: FTP over SSL/TLS (explicit encryption)

    Encryption was: None (encryption only)

Once these two fields were changed the connection worked perfectly.

Thanks for your support and hope this helps someone else if they encounter a similar issue.

Did you disable your Firewall as instructed?

    Hi Nancy

I did disable the firewall yes. But no joy. I'll check the link you've shared and see what I can figure out. Thanks

    Hi Nancy

I've gone through the instructions on the link that you sent but still no success.

Can you click on Site-->Advanced-->FTP log next time you try to transfer and get the actual FTP error?  The error you got suggests that the credentials are fine, but your host refused the connection due to limits on the server.

    Hi Ben

There is no info on the log at all. Just the same error message as I shared previously.
