Having a problem in CS4 when I want to copy and paste things in my stylesheet.
Whenever I do ctrl +c to select a something the whole stylesheet gets selected. And that is not what I want.
Even is I want to copy something from an other css into the css I am working on it won't do the job.

Anyone having the same problem and found a solution?

    Forgive me as I'm new to DW CS4, but I may have a solution.  I encountered the css copy problem as well, but I turned off (unchecked) "Enable Related Files" (Edit -> Preferences -> General -> Document Options -> Enable Related Files).  I had to restart Dreamweaver, but this seems to have fixed the bug.

    I've never used the "Enable Related Files" feature, so it's not a big deal to me - much less of a big deal than not being able to copy and paste.  At least it seems to be a stable work around to the "css copy paste" problem.

    Hope it helps!  Let me know if this resolves the issue for anyone else.

    This is my first report in this topic although I am constantly monitoring it.

    Let me say in one word: Every day I work with DW I think I am going to cry or throw away my computer. This bug is so frustrating I can not tell you how I feel.

    No matter what I clear, what I do, which mode DW is on...

    Trying to copy one line and copies whole paragraph or even worse, trying to paste somewhere and whole paragraph gets erased with pasted text. Sometimes I don't notice immediately...

    I have 3 monitor setup but I work on DW only on middle one. The only thing that "fixes" this is to click on the left monitor before copy or paste. EVERY TIME, as this bug is present almost on every copy/paste I do in source. And I am programmer, I do a lot of copy/paste.

    I paid so much for this product. The CS3 didn't have this. And now nobody cares. And it is so hard to work this way :-(

    I really think I'm gonna cry one dan becuase it is not 1 or 5 times a day this happens to me, it is every minute :-( And I have many behaviours and bought extensions I can not just abandon DW. But working this way is so bad. Sometimes I think I'm going to puke one day.

    If Adobe is listening, which they obviously are not. HELP UP.

    I was official betatester for Macromedia products inc. Dreamweaver and Fireworks. In those days, this product would not have been released, not with me on a betatester team. I fought for such bugs.

    I am sorry Adobe swallowed Macromedia, they at least listened.

    I feel your pain. I am attempting to send this to Adobe as well. I have

    been working with CS4 ever since it has been released and I am really happy

    with most of the features but when a bug like this creeps into the lime

    light, I want to throw it away alas too much money spent for a bug like

    this...

    Has this problem been fixed yet?  I just got it, and it is ANNOYING!!!!   Pretty pathetic that Adobe, who I have always respected, has not fixed it yet.

    Adobe Doesn't Do anything more than closing the cases. Working in classic mode without the CS4 extra's was my solution. Adobe thought that was sufficient and closed my case. I gave up after starting 3 cases at Adobe. They say they cannot reproduce the bug. Even after so many complaints from different people about that issue.

    Anyone having the same problem and found a solution?

    I have been researching this problem.

    Description:

    Opening a file in Code View after the Code Inspector has been opened during the current DW session causes blocks of content to be auto-selected when navigating file using keyboard or copying. Closing the Code Inspector does not solve problem because DW keeps it open in memory until DW is shutdown.

    Workaround:

    Change selection to another panel or document, and then back to Code View.

    Note that closing and re-opening the original page causes the problem again.

    Hope this helps,

    Really, is that all we are going to get from Dreamweaver staff? Users

    have already identified that workaround. They want the problem

    actually fixed by Adobe. Why won't you fix it?

    Of course, at this point it is past time for all of us to bite the

    bullet and move to Eclipse.

    Hello

    I gave up.

    I had two tickets going on. It seems they will not solve the problem.

    I turned over to Classic mode and until now it works.

    So Adobe reacted that de problem was solved. Can you imagine that??

    So forget all the extra stuff, undress the program and Adobe thinks the problem is solved

    And this is not the only issue in CS4

    I am still having this problem.

    I don't see the issue answered in this thread.

    Has the thread moved elsewhere?

    Does anyone have a solution?

    With this post not being unmarked as answered I've started a new thread at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/496022?tstart=0

    Hopefully we can get a solution from this.

    keraweb, if you have a solution from "adobe support portal" can you please reply to the other (unanswered at this stage) discussion thread.  Thanks.

    Hi Glen,

    Adobe forums is unreachable today. Screen stays blank.

    I've been emailing with a adobe programmer on this issue, made a new support

    ticket and I've send some files to the guy. I've made clear that many are

    suffering from this bug and it's annoying me a lot.

    So they are trying now to get the same problems appearing on their systems.

    We all should make new tickets in the support portal. Maybe they wake up and

    find out it's a serious thing.

    same issues in all code view regardless of file type.  CSS, CFM, PHP, HTML, etc...

    the only workaround i have found is to tap the Alt key sometimes 1 time or 3 times after I have selected something.

    then the selection turns gray from blue and what you copy is what you paste, of course you have to tap the Alt key before you paster or you will get unexpected paste results.

    what a workflow disruptor, I curse it so much, co-workers think I have Turrettes Syndrome.

    and please change this so it is not marked as answered, it isn't and it is enough of an annoyance, I am looking for/at other IDEs

    i am surprised that there isn't much more uproar about this than there is...

    Actually, Paste Special only seems to work when I paste from another application, not from within DW.

    June 29, 2009

    I actually found a better solution for this - at least for my situation. I had been getting an error continually popup that read: The following translators were not loaded due to errors: Server Model SSI.htm: has configuration information that is invalid.

    I did a search to see how to clear that message and found this blog: http://sachinkraj.wordpress.com/2009/04/01/fix-server-model-ssihtm-error-in-dreamweaver-cs4/

    Once I followed the steps here, it cleared the error message and fixed my copy/paste/undo problem. Needless to say, I'm very happy to get this all back - especially Undo!!

    Although this post is marked as "Answered" doing the fix as outlined in the last post does not fix the issue (only took me seconds to have issue re-appear again)

    Anyone know when Adobe is going to fix this show stopper bug (I see there is still no update for Dreamweaver CS4 available).

    This (and another Fireworks load issue related to fonts) is just going to make it harder for me to look at future Adobe products.  Definitely slip in their Quality Assurance for this release.

    June 26, 2009

    I am having a similar issue (in HTML, PHP and JS files) and have been using PHP in my files as well. Not sure if that's when it started. But, I have been able to use Paste Special to paste text into my code in Dreamweaver CS4.

    Well, I have the same problem and am looking hard for a solution. So far none found. This problem is not related to CSS only. When I develop PHP scripts, I get the same.

    Testcase 1

    I tried to reproduce the bug with the following code in a file:

    <?php

    function some_function($str)
    {
        // just a comment
    }

    ?>

    When I open the file and try to select and copy the function name (some_function), the whole page gets selected. I tried to select with double click and click and drag, both with the same bug. Also tried to copy with CTRL + C and copy command from context menu, also with same bug result.

    But, when I open the file and type something random somewhere and the try to copy the function name. All goes as planned.

    Testcase 2

    <?php

    function some_function($str)
    {
        // just a comment
    }

    ?>
    <html>
    <head>
    </head>

    <body>
    </body>
    </html>

    Tried the same as in testcase 1 (select and copy name of function), this time not the whole doc gets selected, but only the PHP part (from <?php to ?>). Also tried to copy the <html> tag, but fails.

    Testcase 3

    <?php

    function some_function($str)
    {
        // just a comment
    }

    ?>
    <html>
    <head>
    </head>

    <body>
    </body>
    </html>
    <?

    function another_function()
    {
    }

    ?>

    This case got some other weird bug. When I click after the last ?> (at the end of the document) and try to select all using CTRL + A, nothing gets selected. When I click inside a PHP code block and press CTRL + A, only that PHP code block gets selected, instead of the whole document.

    Also when I click after the </html> tag and press the arrow down key on the keyboard (to place the cursor before <?), the whole PHP code block is selected. When I try to copy this selection, it works.

    Hope someone at Adobe can reproduce and identify the bug with above information.

    Cheers, Roel

    Information like that should be useful in tracking down the problem. However, the forums are not regularly monitored by the Dreamweaver development team. Please submit the details through the official bug report form.

    I too am experiencing this issue, and it looks like I am not alone. I too am using DW CS4, Vista 64-bit, with dual monitors. Others' descriptions of the bug are close to or mirror my own.

    While this thread has not yet identified a specific series of actions to reproduce the bug, that doesn't mean that one doesn't exist, and meanwhile we have identified many similarities among users who do experience the bug:

    1. DW CS4

    2. Vista 64 bit

    3. Dual Monitors

    4. Just opened a file

    5. The user attempts to highlight and copy a specific set of text, but a larger set is highlighted or copied.

    6. The problem stops when the user takes some sort of textual editing action, e.g. typing a character and then deleting it.

    This should be helpful in isolating the bug. I will file a bug report, and I am sure that volume matters in addition to content, so others should do the same.

    This impacts some of Adobe's most important users - those who are doing serious enough work that they actually work across 2 monitors and went for 64-bit OS's. I don't think that Adobe should simply ignore this audience or this issue.

    Unfortunately, Adobe does not frequently push out bug fixes to DW. This is bad enough that my workaround may be to simply use a different, non-Adobe product (e.g. Zend Studio). Selecting and copying text needs to work for me to do my job.

    May 7, 2009

    The copy/paste problem I've encountered has also been intermittent. What happens in my case is that the entire file is copied and then a new file is created, a copy of course. The only remedy I've found has been to stop/restart DW, which is a time-consuming pain.

    NOT really a fix, Turning OFF related files, is a burden, if you have become accustomed to using it! I like to see the list of related files and quickly click on one to start editing without the need to go to the site pane and find it there! Especially when working with php, all the includes are listed in order of occurance. Very NICE

    I have this same issue, WHAT A PAIN.. if you click out side of DW on another app and then back in, the problem dissapears for a little while. then comes back..

    I am on xp 64 dual monitor also. This seems to be common.

    I wish there was a real fix for this issue!!

    Specifically regarding the alleged "turn off 'related files'" fix: it doesn't fix the problem for me. I have had that feature off the entire time.
