Dreamweaver CS5 will not open

Explorer ,
Apr 30, 2010 Apr 30, 2010

I just downloaded Adobe CS5 Design Premium and installed. Every application opens without problem except Dreamweaver which will not open at all. I tried installing again and that didn't work. I even tried removing all of my preference files, old Application Support files and even Library Application Support files. Uninstalled CS4 and CS5 and installed a fresh copy of CS5.

Dreamweaver CS5 will not open. It gets to just before the splash screen and stops. It's not hanging either, I can click the dock and quit the app without a force quit. It appears that the open sequence is missing something.

Everyone is saying the update works but you never know, some may have problems finding it. I had this problem until minutes ago until I too did the update for CS5, go here:

http://www.adobe.com/support/dreamweaver/downloads_updaters.html#dwcs51104

If you are on Lion and are using CS5 (not 5.5) don't waste your time with permissions and preferences, this does it!

I think this will only work if you have a Acer computer. I was told to go to computer>c drive>acer> empowering technology>eDataSecurity>x86> find the file PSDProtect.dll rename it to noPSDProtect.dll...close that then go back to eDataSecurity>X64> find the file PSDProtect and change that name also to noPSDProtect.dll. .....After all that is done then close it then try to start Dreamweaver.

thx

on Mac Pro... cs5 for dw... hate this slow down... there has to be something to fix it.

as a hint for others, copy/paste your work space and snippets then put in new config for a time saver...

extensions are another issues... have to reinstall or reactivate... pita!

Thanks kanett1963 - I have an Acer Aspire AM5641-E5610A running Vista, Dreamweaver CS5 would not open, just the splash screen and a brief window appearance. I received and downloaded the Adobe update mentioned elsewhere, but that didn't fix it. Your solution worked for me.

For those who need it, here's that Acer-specific fix again:

Rename C:\Acer\Empowering Technology\eDataSecurity\x86\PSDProtect.dll to noPSDProtect.dll

Rename C:\Acer\Empowering Technology\eDataSecurity\x64\PSDProtect.dll to noPSDProtect.dll

No reboot should be required, at least I didn't need to. Thanks again!

The above helpful to anyone? Dreamweaver is still running smoothly on my Mac after a full day of coding. Have reinstated all my settings, so it better not crash again... *skull & crossbones*

Just woke up my MacBook, and Dreamweaver did it again... just renamed the configuration folder and it started up again without any problem.

It seems that DW will keep doing this from time to time, which is NOT funny..

Therefore, Adobe, get us a fix that will solve this permanently!!!

Me too.

Just upgraded from CS3 to CS5.

No FileVault.

Renaming configuration file worked.... temporarily.

Now it's doing it again, 24 hours later. Arggg!

I have had some success and failures with this.

I am using Snow Leopard 10.6.3

FileVault is not being used.

Non admin users with network home directories

Dreamweaver fails to launch as others described here. Changing file permissions on the network home directory did not work. But, forcing local home directory and modifying the locally created folders permissions did work. Creating a local non admin account worked as well. These are not acceptable solutions in our environment. We are a community college with teaching labs and require network based home directories.

We also had this problem with Acrobat 9 pro last year and had to revert to version 8. Hopefully Adobe resolves this problem soon.

I too have experienced this major flaw in Dreamweaver CS5 for the Macintosh: it absolutely will not run under a FileVault enabled account. (None of the other programs in the CS5 suite I bought has this flaw.) A reputable company will assign a top priority to fixing this flaw and will also announce prominently its schedule for doing so. We will see if Adobe satisfies this criterion for being reputable.

I've been having the same problem on a PC with Vista.

If you're running an Acer machine, this fix works:

http://www.egistec.com/oem-acer001/program-update.aspx

Now running fine.

I just got off the phone with Adobe Tech support and was told that a fix for this is in development.  The representative would not comment on the timeframe but did say they were trying to fix this.

yeah well, as this problem rears its ugly head almost weekly, I have been able to determine a certain trend. Most often it happens when I return from my lunchbreak and wake up my Macbook. After waking up DW is down.

My procedure: I have a current configurations folder named "configuration-replace" which is a copy of a configurations folder of DW as I want it to function. after a crash I delete "configuration", copy "configuration-replace", rename the copy to "configuration" and restart DW. all is well again.

Of course, this cannot be a permanent solution, so I expect Adobe to provide a fix for this. Otherwise I will switch to Coda, as I use DW as a deLuxe code-editor anyway..

Still cannot open Dreamweaver CS5.  I uninstalled the trial, and installed from a Web Premium disc.  Same things happens.  OSX FileVault.  I can launch the app in newly created user account, but really don't have the time to setup a new primary account on the workstation.
