Internal data error: Transferred file size does not match the expected file size.

For some files in Dreamweaver when i publish i get the following error:

File Transfer failed due to following reasons:
- Internal data error: Transferred file size does not match the expected file size.

It only does it for some files and not others. When it errors it also removes the file from the server.

I have tested with Filezila and it publishes the files fine with no issues so the issue is definately Dreamweaver.

It can work on a file all morning and then once it fails once it will never let you publish it even if you delete and try again.

The server hosts say there is nothing they can do , please can you explain how i can stop this happening.

Here is example log for a .htm file i was trying to publish:

I jusrt spend about an hour with Adobe Tech support.  They made me downgrade to version 21.2.  Told me not to upgrade until after 21.3.  Everything is back to working fine.  It's a bug in Dreamweaver 21.3, nothing wrong on my end.

It could be timing out during data transfer.  DW uploads HTML & scripts almost instantly for me.  However for large media files (video), I always use FileZilla.

Try restoring preferences. See if that helps.  If it doesn't, come back for more suggestions.

Im having the same issue.  I've restored preferences with no help.  Running DW Version 21.3.  It seems like many others are experiencing this issue.  Has anyone found a fix?

I don't know who the "MANY OTHER USERS" are.

This isn't something that's been reported here much in the past year or more.

Unless I'm missing something, you're not getting an acccurate byte count on files you've recently uploaded to your server. It could be an issue with your server/computer rounding up/down to the nearest kilobyte?

  • How far off are they?
  • And what type of files?
  • Which operating system do you have?

Hi, I had the same issue the last couple of days in version 21.3, and also now in version 21.4, Build 15620. Any clue how to solve?

I had the same problem last year and rolled back to 21.2 to cure it. Without me realising DW installed 2.14 a few weeks ago and I didn't notice for a while, but now the same problem has come back. It will upload files occassionally but often will give the Transferred file size does not match the expected file size error and appartently wipe the file off the server. They upload with Filezilla no problem. Isn't it about time Dreamweaver cured this bug?

This is not a Dreamweaver bug; it is Adobe failing to upgrade Dreamweaver to comply with current standards. Do what thousands of other ex-Dreamers have done, jump ship, go VSCode for a free solution or, as I have done, Wappler.

Wappler is the DMXzone-made Dreamweaver replacement and includes the best of their powerful extensions, as well as much more!

I've looked at Wappler. The problem is I have dozens of website and it seems to me I will not be able to maintain them using Wappler. Or is it feasible to use Wappler to maintain an existing site?
