Hi David:

I am working with some of the lessons in your excellent book, but I am having DW3 crashing problems that have just cropped up.

It has to do with saving your files to my localhost, and DW quits if I touch anything having to do with the CSS file link. I am trying to link the CSS file that is in my local files. Am I dong something wrong on the save (update links?)?

The problem is new, and was not an issue before yesterday. Any ideas?

Thx, Ned

DW3? That's an ancient version of Dreamweaver (released in 1999). Do you
mean Dreamweaver CS3 (released 2007)?

Nothing in any of my books will cause Dreamweaver to crash in normal
circumstances. If Dreamweaver is crashing, the most likely cause is a
corrupted file cache.

Try troubleshooting step 4 in the following technote:

http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19105

You don't say which of my books you're using, but if it's the DW CS3
book, another possible cause is explained on page 220. Dreamweaver CS3
is affected by a rare bug that causes the program to crash if you have a
file that is exactly 8,192 bytes or a multiple thereof in the current
site. Add some extra text in a text editor, such as Notepad, to change
the size of the file.

Hi David -- I was typing way too fast...

Yes, it's DW CS3, with your book of the same.

Thanks for the suggestion about the corrupted file cache. The problem is new, with no difficulty as recently as a couple days ago. Example files that I had worked with last week are suddenly crapping out. And my other local sites seem to be working fine.

Appreciate your quick response.

Hi:

I tried this (deleting the supposed corrupted file), and it seemed to calm the crashing for now:

"Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 crashes when working with certain PHP or ASP files in Code view or Design view after the clock goes back one hour, when Daylight Savings Time ends. The crashes only occur when selecting certain lines in Code view, or selecting certain objects in Design view. The crashes only occur in files that have PHP or ASP code, intermingled with HTML code. The crashes do not occur in Dreamweaver 8 or earlier (Ref. 229536).

Reason
The Dreamweaver CS3 WinFileCache-AD76BB20.dat file has been corrupted by the time change."

I don't really get it, since the time change was a couple of months ago and this was not an issue untl the last few days. If I continue to have a bad experience, I will report.
