Popup hides menu

Explorer ,
Aug 29, 2023 Aug 29, 2023

When Dreamweaver opens, it displays a pop-up at upper left with common actions as its default plus other options. However, it covers the menu bar there, so I can't get to Edit actions (apart from alt-E). The popup won't move if I try to drag it. What can I do?

21 days later & we're still discussing the futility of a 23 year old product on modern equipment.

@jhaber3,

It will never work as expected because it's too old.

Either get new web software or find an old computer that still runs Windows 98 or 2000.

That's the best & only answer I have.

Can you provide a screenshot?

Which operating system are you using?

What is your display's screen resolution and magnification setting?

Are you using a single or dual display?

You really think the screen resolution could be inadequate? I've been running Dreamweaver on other laptops for years, and this is a brand new Windows 11 laptop. I don't know the terms, but I'm sure it's a single display.

Some people on high resolution screens use 150% or higher magnification settings to see menus & icons better.  This can cause panels to behave in unexpected ways.

Without knowing what you're seeing, it's hard to troubleshoot.

A shot in the dark would be to Restore Preferences and see if that helps.

Do you have any screenshots that might help us better understand what you're encountering, and what dialogue it is about ?

I just took a screen shot. With luck, you'll find that my description already covers it, but here goes! Any help appreciated. CutoffMenu.jpg

Dreamweaver Ultradev? I am surprised that is still running for you. You can try restoring preferences as this kb article really hasn't changed over time ( https://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/restore-preferences-dreamweaver.html ). However, with that said it's likely over time that old of a copy of DW may run into weird errors as it was developed a long, long time ago.

Given the advanced age of UltraDev — and on Windows 11 no less, I'm not even going to suggest a solution.  This is a waste of everyone's time.

Nobody should be using 20 year old web software in 2023.

  • The Internet has changed too much.
  • Coding technology has changed too much.
  • Computers, browsers and the web devices that people use have changed too much.

Please do everyone a favor and get a modern code editor that's compatible with Windows 11.

If not Dreamweaver CC, then something else...

@jhaber3 in fact it's a tool palette, can't you hook it somewhere else in the interface (dragging and docking action), or at most just move it around?

Somehow I can't find my own post and don't see it listed even under my posts or follows! But I heard back that someone asked for a screenshot, so here we go. Honestly, it's nothing hard to picture, just that the icon that appears while the program is running has gone blank. Second app this past week with this problem in Windows 11. The previous time I reinstalled Windows, which I'm sure not going to do again.

I also noted a possibly related issue, but see my post from last evening if you can find it!

@jhaber3 when you click your name or go to your profile you can see a list of your previous topics that you can click through. I merged your comment to what I beleive is the thread you were referring to. If not, let me know and I can resolve.

You're right to chastise me. I don't discuss the options you mention and any qualms I have, so as not to burden you further. I won't even mention things I have been tinkering with concern high-res to help. But in fact my post this morning was no more than a mistake, meant for another app and forum entirely. I've had so much go wrong with Windows 11 and the new laptop that I'm losing it! So again, apologies.
