Is anybody experiencing really slow typing in DW CS6 on a Mac?
Regardless of what I type, the code only apears at a rate of 3 characters per second! Does anybody know what may be causing this? Is it an incompatability, a bug, or some rendering issue???
I'm running this on an old MacPro1,1 / NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256 MB with 8GB Ram, SSD drives OSX Lion 10.7.3.
This slow behaviour is not noticed on other CS6 apps...
The purchased product was an upgrade - downloaded from Adobe:
Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium (Mac,English)
Looking forward to a resolution, as it's pretty terrible.
Luis.
If you have installed Dreamweaver CCM update (12.1), you should no longer face this issue. If you have 6.1 update installed and are still facing this problem, let us know. For users that are not on the cloud, Adobe is working towards a release that addresses this issue.

A quick update to the message I posted to this thread about this problem on 11 May. I upgraded to 10.7.4 over the weekend and also tried running Dreamweaver with no other applications running and this problem still happened. It reminds me of the very first DTP package I used on a Commodore Amiga in the mid-1980's - you had to wait for the text to draw on the screen as you typed.
I'd uninstalled DW CS 5 but I'm going to dig out my install disks and go back to it as this is driving me nuts.
As others have said, I'd be very happy to aid anyone at Adobe to help fix this issue. I posted a bug report this morning.

Same problem here. Even did a clean OSX 10.7.4 install to test if it would help. Currently running Creative Cloud Trial
Disabling related files didn't make any difference either.
MacBookPro5,1
Intel Core 2 Duo 2,8 GHz
4GB RAM
Idle CPU usage (by dreamweaver) about 2-3%
As soon as I start typing it jumps to 60-65%
Typing in Design view works fine by the way. It's only Code view that's bugging some how.
Could it be related to code completion or syntax checking/highlighting?

Was just wondering if any progress has been made on this? I just installed my Creative Cloud subscription and am having this problem. Here are my system specs:
2 x 2.66 Ghz Dual-Core Inel Xen MAc Pro
8 GB Ram
OSX 10.7.4
Whenever I type the CPU spikes to 80%+ as others have mentioned.
As for Dreamweaver it is a completely fresh install, I havent changed any prefs (other than disabling related files to see if that helped which it did not)

Hi,
Please respond back if you have installed Non-English version of Dreamweaver CS6 in your machine? If yes, please mention the language pack that you have installed.

By the way: It's not just typing that's slow but also scrolling (with mouse) is terrible and uses high cpu...

I'm using English (United States). I also noticed that sometimes when I first launch the app it works fine for a bit and slowly gets slower and more resource intensive.
I also noticed that it gets worse the larger the file is. While a 1 line document still is slow the delay is much worse on a document with hundreds of lines of code.

The Dreamweaver code window "lag" makes the product unusable. I've already reverted to CS3 after one week using the creative cloud suite. The Dreamweaver CS6 perfomance issue aside, there have been already more than too many bugs in PhotoShop and Flash CS6. I can't believe they released this suite to the public, it's full of holes. Typical Adobe I guess.

Using a 24" Apple LED Cinema display (1920x1200) next to my 1440x900 15" Macbook Pro screen. When unplugging de 24" monitor and running DW only on Macbook doesn't feel any better.

Hi Janaki
I'm using a 30" Apple Cinema Display running at 2560 x 1600
For others following this post, Janaki and I spent a good deal of time the other day running through various tests and he's been very helpful trying to find a solution despite not being able to reproduce the problem on his system.
During the session I found (like themortalgod01 above) that the longer the file I was editing the less responsive DW became.
Adobe are on the case! 🙂

Andy

Hi Janaki,
I am using 3x 23" LED monitors @ 1920 x 1080 resolution.
I am running Windows 7 64bit - 16GB Ram - Intel Ivy 3770K processor
I have installed the International English version
I did a fresh install few days ago and ran adobe without any antivirus software etc, dreamweaver straight off utlilized 1/8 of my processor. My old Quad Core Q6600 used 1/4 of processor.
Thanks for your hard work and assistance so far Janaki, much appreciated!

I hope you find a fix soon. Good timing for Panic releasing Coda 2 today.
Trying it now and I kinda like it so unless an update arrives soon I might stop using Dreamweaver completely.

Any news on this? My Creative Cloud trial is over soon and $50 a month for this buggy product ain't worth it...

I was going to post today to ask the same question. I hope the silence is because the Adobe programmers are working on a solution. I've spotted a couple of other annoying bugs in Dreamweaver that worry me somewhat. Seems to show a lack of a good testing regime.
I'm hoping that Apple will reveal new Mac Pros on Monday at WWDC. My MacPro 1,1 is due an update and perhaps the extra power will be enough to cope with DW's dodgy programming. Bit of an expensive way to fix the problem, though

Hi DW Users,
and
helped us in nailing down the issue by joining Adobe Connect session from their Mac machines. With their help we could reproduce the "Slow typing" issue at our end in Mac machines (only). Thanks Guys! We appreciate your help. We are investigating the root cause for this issue right now.
But we could not reproduce the same yet in Windows at our end. So if PC (Windows) users can join Adobe Connect session, it will be of great help! People who are willing to join Adobe Connect session can directly mail me at jlakshmi@adobe.com. We appreciate your cooperation to nail down this issue!

Thank for the feedback Preran, but updating to 12.1 is causing other issues, see my post on previous page (Files Panel stealing the focus from document window on file transfer).
It has been confirmed by your team and was wondering what the status is. For me it is so annoying I reverted back to the 'slow' 12.0.1 version and won't update to 12.1 until I know how te prevent the focus stealing.

After searching for hours and subsequently finding this thread, I too updated to 12.1. Unfortunately I am still experiencing the lag as mentioned by the OP; however I am using a Late 2011 Macbook Pro - 500g hard drive, 8gb ram, and Mountain Lion.
It seems as though there is some sort of input lag on the code-view only (I typically don't use Split or design view). Anything I can try in order to reduce this hinderance? Or am I pretty much stuck with it until the next update is released? There is no reason that my computer should not be able to handle Dreamweaver in text view slower than Photoshop and huge images therein.

Hello All,
High CPU usage in Code view issue has been resolved for Mac and the new build 12.0.3 is available for update for Non-Creative Cloud Members too. Please update to the latest build.
In Dreamweaver use menu 'Help' > Updates to get the latest build 12.0.3
The above update is available for both Windows and Mac.
Off topic: Creative Cloud users too have an update 12.1.1 to continue using Phone Gap from DW.
Regards,
Janaki

Nice, but still the Focus changing when saving (and auto uploading) files still isn't fixed!!!!
Getting really annoyed and thinking about getting my money back. DW is the app I used to most from my Creative Cloud package but it's getting very bad! Still need to revert back to 12.0.1 because I can't work with 12.1 because of the files panel stealing focus.

I have DW 12.0 Build 5861 and Help > Updates shows no updates available. Your message indicates an update was available three months ago.
In this site, http://acp.eugraph.com, if I open a page and double click on a word in the text, I can count to four slowly before the text is highlighted. In Activity Monitor, I can see DW go from 15% CPU to 99% during that time. Scrolling is also very slow.
In this site, http://onh.eugraph.com, trying to select text in an ApDiv is also very slow. Furthermore, if I double click an ApDiv, it takes some three seconds to select the Div and expand the text. Again, I can see DW go from single digits to the 90s.
Dreamweaver is the only app that behaves this way and also the only app that crashes on my iMac. Photoshop, InDesign, Aperture (with 43,000 photos), etc. all work great.
This is on a 2010 27" iMac 2.93 quad i7 with 16 GB RAM and more than 600 GB free space.
