Strange issues with CS3 and Windows 10

On my previous laptop Windows 7 was my OS and CS3 (Yes I know... it's a prehistoric $800,- version) worked excellent.
I choose to update the OS from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and CS3 still worked excellent.

The harddrive (of my previous laptop) crashed so I bought a new one, with the latest specs and Windows 10.
Installed CS3 thinking it would work fine.
It doesn't. I have several issues with Dreamweaver (didn't had the time to test Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)


My issue:
If I make a new file in Dreamweaver, save this (f.i. index.html) and I upload this via  a ftp  address in a webbrowser
In Dreamweaver I can make changes to this file but I can't save it under the old name (index.html).
A prompt with "access denied" appears.
To save it I have to rename it to index2.html.
Strange thing is... that the old file (index.html) is completely vanished.
I can't find it anywhere.

If I do the same but use a ftp program (save and upload the file)... there is no problem.
I can make as many changes as I want and save the file as many times as I want, and all under the original (old) name (index.html).
So... no prompts and no "access denied" issues.

I've been told that the system requirements for CS3 is Windows 98 (or Vista)
CS3 is prehisoric and therefor not compatible with Windows 10.
But it worked fine on my other laptop and so I wonder?
Is there really no solution for this issue and do I have to draw my wallet (again)?
Or is it wise to delete CS3 from my new laptop and look for alternatives like Notepad?

    I think you have said it yourself, when you wrote -

    Users have been able to run old CS version on windows 10, then windows 10 has applied an update, after which the old CS version stopped working correctly, or would not even start.

    If you do not wish to update to the CC subscription based versions, then you could try using, Brackets, or visual studio code.

    This sounds more like a permissions problem than anything with DW.

    Check your Local Site's file properties to ensure they are  NOT "read only."  You need full read & write permissions to edit & save over files.   Another thing to try is running DW as an Administrator by right-clicking the desktop icon.

    Failing all of the above, you may need to run CS3 in compatibility mode.

    That was the first thing that popped into my head and what I've done.
    Checking the security and the permissions and all where good.
    Still getting te access denied prompt dough.

    Also running DW as administrator gave no positive result.

    About running CS3 in compatibility mode.
    Do you mean that I have to change the compatibility mode in DW?
    As in... change from Vista to higher Windows versions?
    I did that, but it also gave no positive result

    Don't get me wrong... it works.
    I know (for a fact) that CS3 and Windows 10 aren't best friends.
    And -for an old granny- she runs fine, but she has some strange issues.

    Why does Dreamwever remove files and prohibits overwriting files after I've (ftp) connected my web host via any web browser, or my web host's Direct Admin?
    Every time I upload a file this way, files are gone and I get the impression that I don't have any rights for overwriting files.
    And if I use a ftp program, those same issues aren't there.
    This means somewere there's a conflict and I don't know if it's CS, Windows or even the web browsers I use.

    Now I could choose to upload my files by using a ftp program only.
    In that case there will be no problem at all.

    That looks like a simple solution, but with many projects running...?

    I'm not a senior citizen and it sounds stupid, but I still believe in hard copies.

    Buy, receive, use and have the impression that it's yours.

    Like I buy my cars and don't lease them.

    Maybe it's time to for me to say goodbye to my hard copy CS3 and look for some other alternatieves.

    Strangely enough i hate the idea of a subscription service for software. I don't mind downloading them, but i don't want to keep paying month after month, year after year. One payment and that is it, until I want to update.
