Privileged Locations doesn't seem to work with this version as it did in reader 11.x

I have used the deployment wizard and put in the folder path, also tried file name

however each time the pdf file that I want opened on a file share it will give me the security warning

do you want to continue and I have to press allow

This worked great in reader 11 but not in reader 2017 dc classic

using the customization wizard

during reader install I can check the register and those entries are there but it doesn't work

Hi larrys,

Why are you using Reader 2017 classic?

Why don't you use Reader DC: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution ​Also, have you tried to install the Reader 2017 with all updates available? If you set the location manually on a test machine under preference, do you still see this problem?

If you already have found an answer or workaround to this issue. Please update this discussion with your findings.

Hello,

I'm using 2017 classic DC because I want to be able to control the updating process, basically we do not want reader auto updating and that's the case for classic DC.  I've placed the links within adobe manually also and still get the security warning.  Reader 11 this worked fine.

I haven't tried installing the latest patch and will go ahead and do but these are generally security patches so I wouldn't think these would fix our issue.

I did use your link and download reader dc 2019 but doesn't this auto update?

my understanding is that if I put these pdf's in a network share, then within reader, go to preferences\security enhanced and choose "add folder path" then it should work, or use cust manager to do the same thing.

You can disable updates in any product. The main thing to watch out for: If you use any services, service updates happen in tandem with desktop updates. See Basic Configuration — DC Deployment Planning and Configuration

Thanks for the information that you have provided.

I think we will try to use 2019 DC Reader because of the later EOL.

When I downloaded 2017 DC classic,  I was able to get:

AcroRdr20171700830051_MUI.exe which we need because of our Japanese users, however I don't see a download similiar when looking at 2019 DC.

I see downloads for:

AcroRdrDCUpd1901020099_en_us.exe

AcroRdrDCUpd1901020099.msp

AcroRdrDCUpd1901020099_MUI.MSP ---> I cannot find the base MUI 2019 DC for download so I can't install this.

The last base MUI was:  AcroRdrDC1500720033_MUI.exe

Is there a base MUI for Reader DC 2019??

I did notice there's a separate download for the ja_jp.exe and well as a few other languages however we are trying to install

adobe reader 2019 DC which will provide for Languages:  en-us as well as ja_jp Languages similiar to reader 2017 classic mui does

Try the 2015 base. I don't think there was ever a new base.

so to get the mui installer I would have to stick with 2017 DC classic or continuous, sounds like I'm back to where I began

so what are the AcroRdrDCUpd1901020099_MUI.MSP files used for, it says install over "DC base MUI"

would this upgrade my 2017 DC classic mui to 2019 DC?

I can see why it could be confusing. You need a full exe (which are all MUI) and the latest update. If you get Reader from Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions  you'll get a version "19" installer, but you can also get the latest exe (which is "17") and install the latest update.

• The easiest way to get what you want is from the website which will give you jp + en as the latest installer. It's all packaged together (last I checked)
• Enterprise also often gets installers from the ftp site. See link here: Acrobat-Reader Enterprise Toolkit Home.
• Or you can get an installer from other Adobe locations and update through the GUI and then deploy.
• Enterprise also often downloads the Wizard and configures the installer as needed (including languages) and then deploys.

OK, I didn't know what you just stated because I was comparing the "file names" that had the actual 'MUI'

in their name.

So it sounds like all I have to do is download the latest full exe (in my case 2019 DC continuous) and any .msp

patch to get it current, disable the updates using cust manager and all will be fine.  Our English users and Japanese users will the user interface they need.  I will also get the Japanese font pack for them if needed

As mentioned above, you have multiple options. You can get a single installer or a base + msp.

DC Continuous track is the preferred and Adobe recommended version. However, keep in mind that disabling updates with that track is possible but not recommended. If you are using services, you shouldn't. If you are not using services, disable both the product updater and services plugin updater. The doc explains it.
