Question

AI Generate stop working in Photoshop with Shared Device license

AI Generate stop working in Photoshop on February 12 2025 for Shared Device License users.

Generate ... menus are still available with new package installation.

The Generate process showing progress bar then stopped with "This feature is not available" error.

It is really confusing for the users, since this feature was used since Photoshop 2024 was released.

The Creative Cloud Shared Device Access for Higher Education includes Firefly, but showing status " We are sorry. Something went wrong..." in Product tab of Admin Console.

Hi @marinav995945,

Thank you for reaching out.

Upon review, I can confirm that the Adobe ID used to post this query is associated with an active Enterprise plan.

Please note that Shared Device Licenses (SDL) do not include access to Firefly's generative AI features, as they only provide desktop applications and do not support cloud-based services. To enable Firefly’s generative AI capabilities, users must be assigned either a Named User License (NUL) with an eligible Creative Cloud plan or an Adobe Express license.

For more details, please refer to the Shared Device License FAQ.

Please let me know if you any additional questions.

Regards,

^AN

I completely agree here. It has disrupted teaching in our media studio this semester for those of us who planned—as anyone would—to teach students how (and when) to work with GAI. Adobe should give more thought to educational contexts (and calendars) and the importance of labs as creative spaces that build community and foster design learning and collaboration. Physical labs and studios remain very important in higher education, even moreso after Covid. We are the only lab on our STEM campus that has Adobe CS, which is how a lot of students discover the degrees and courses that we offer in media and their interest in creative and design fields. Handing out licenses to students in our courses is not a substitute for what we hope to achieve by having your product in our lab, nor is device licensing that doesn't include the features that everyone wants to use and understand right now. I understand monetizing GAI, but find a way to offer us the option of paying extra for that feature in a device license. You were able to make it available long enough to change people's expecatations and workflows, so it sure seems like something you could do.
