Question

Auto updates for reader ( mainly )

We used to do manual updates for reader ( and flash and shockwave ) but thats now becoming a nightmare applying part patched, msps etc.

So what we now want to have a look at is getting reader installed on all our 150-ish PC and setting them up to autoupdate. Can anyone show me how to go about this please?

I want to take the current version and turn on the autoupdate feature? maybe thats through a reg key change? ( theres nothing in msconfig like mine at home to autoupdate. )

As we are quite locked down here what is the address that adobe updates from? is it from a ftp? http? https?

Is it a trusted site we can add?

If anyone can assist?? Many thanks.

Hi,

Are the users in your network running on an Admin account or a Standard Account? If its an Admin account, you can simply deploy the Reader 10.1.0 MSI and then let the Auto Update feature do the rest.

More details on how to go about deploying Acrobat / Reader can be found at:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83709/attachments/Acrobat_Enterprise_Administration.pdf

Information regarding the Adobe Refresh Manager (the Updater service for Acrobat/Reader) can be found at (under the Updater configuration section):

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83709/attachments/Acrobat_Reader_Updater.pdf

But if the users' are actually setup as Standard Users, then going via updater will not be the best option. In that case, you will need to manage the update deployment via either of:

1. GPO

2. SCUP/SCCM

3. SMS

Information on how to go about the same can be found using the above mentioned Administration guide.

You dont need to add any trusted site as such unless you have a firewall in place that blocks and and all outgoing requests.

Thanks
