Community Beginner ,
Nov 08, 2012 Nov 08, 2012

Hi All,

Adobe provides now two options to download the XI Reader - exe and msi

Shoudl I stick to the proven exe AIP installation or I can deploy msi directly via GPO.

Thanks

Adobe has always provided both of those options. You can extract the MSI from the EXE.

Get the admin guide from the Enterprise Toolkit: www.adobe.com/go/acrobatetk.

Many thanks Ben,

My thoght is, can I push the msi directly without extracting it and performing admin instalaltion. Then applying the msp to the main msi in GPOs.

I have been looking at the Admin guides for some time but the msi was for command line distribution.

Thanks

I don't completely understand the question because extraction of the msi doesn't mean you have to perform an AIP install. Many admins don't use AIPs because they are subject to more constraints than other deployment options. For example, using the exe/bootstrapper method is easier.

Ben

Hi Ben,

Sorry for not clarifying enough for you. Basically I have used only the exe to extract the install files and then creating an administrative install. This one I was pushing via GPO to the workstations.

With regards of the msi, most of other appliactions come with an msi and I just add the msi to the GPO and it is installed. Does the Adobe msi behave in the same fashion or I need to perform the same steps as for the exe.

Hi,

Software deployments through GPO are mostly done using AIP. Adobe supports GPO deployments through AIP only and this has been documented in our Enterprise Admin Guide. However I see no reason why this should not work if you simply provide the single MSI. You can go ahead and try it out.

Thanks,

Vinod
