I cannot seem to select or deselect objects in fireworks by clicking on them. I have to click and drag in order to select an object and click and drag to deselect. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong or how I can fix this? Thanks.

Having read 99 posts that experience the same issue: cannot select a tool in CS5 (crop tool) in my case,  the fix is always other software that has been recently installed or updated.

In my case, I had installed Plustek OpticPro A360 scanner software the day before.  I uninstalled it, rebooted my PC (W10) and voila, Fireworks operates perfectly again.

Moral of the story: think back to software you have recently added/updated.

Have fun!
