i am not a techie, so the previous threads dont help me much -- not basic enough, i guess.   anyway, i cant seem to install adobe flash player.   i often click on a website or something, and it wont run because it says i need adobe flash player (had it before -- dont know what happened to ti).   when i follow the steps to download flash player, my computer freezes up and IE shuts down.  whats up, and how might i go forward?   and thanks in advance for helping out a non-techie.

Hi gz, Well, it helps to know what operating system you use and what browser(s) and versions. Windows XP, Vista, etc.

IE6, 7 or 8. Firefox or any other browsers?

Also did you Unistall before trying to Install?

    Thanks,

Don't feel bad I just spent 50 mins talking to tech support with no help at all I cant download the Flash Player either I guess what I am going to have to do is take the computer or hire someone to fix it.  I can't even balance my checkbook without the Flash Player so right now this computer is useless to me.  I have been going to the library to use their computers but what do you know they have all the websites that I need blocked what a bitch technology is.

Hi Chrissa, LOL at "can't balance my checkbook without FP". Even though many users have problems Uninstalling/Installing FP, each system is configured differently as you can tell if you've read this thread. For that reason

it is always better to have your own thread, otherwise it gets too confusing.

Pick a subject line and start your thread. That way it is just about your system, etc.

I have found that it is not the Adobe Flash Player that causes problems, it is always add ons, Toolbars, Anti-Virus/Spyware/Firewalls, other ActiveX Controls on the system. When you think about what an Anti-Virus program does, and some are very invasive, and what is necessary for Flash Player to install correctly, then it makes sense. One of the duties, if you will, is to prevent ActiveX installs to your system. Well one of the necessary installs for FP is installing an ActiveX Control and writing to the Windows Registry. Both need permission to do so. FP works thru your browser, so any other add on or ActiveX Control, Toolbar and their add ons can conflict. So that is just a bit of the many variables that must be considered.

I don't use any Toolbars and keep my add ons in my IE to only those required and for me Flash Player is a piece of cake, to not only Uninstall but to Install and Update.

And no, I don't own Stock in Adobe:-) Just trying to give a realistic perspective on the process.

    Thanks,

Ok, thanks. You can go up to Help and click on About Internet Explorer, it will tell you there.

Whenever you want to Install the latest version of Flash Player, you must use the Adobe Uninstaller:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html  You want to download this and SAVE it to your Desktop.

Then download and SAVE this IE Installer to your Desktop:

    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax .exe

Once you have that done, go to Tools, click on Internet Options and click on the Security Tab. You want to set the Security for the Internet Zone to Medium.

Before you begin any of this, post back your Anti-Virus/Spyware/Firewall info. Any or all may block the download of the

ActiveX Control and I need this info so you will know what to do before you try to Uninstall.

Also you will need to run as Administrator.

    Thanks,
