Flash Player has downloaded/installed, but still does not work

This is a relatively new problem for my computer, but from what i have read, is a common problem so I know it is not my computer. Out of the blue, click on a video and all i see is a black screen. No adobe logo saying i needed to update or download in order to watch video. So i unistalled, rebooted and reinstalled..nothing. I uninstalled/installed with zip..nothing. Everything that is enabled is enabled..nothing. Reset IE...nothing. Downloaded Mozilla..nothing. I am currently running windows xp, IE 8 (32 bit) and all security software are disabled. The crazy part is that when i check the file for flash player, it does not show any bites in file. I know there should be bites in there because i checked on a computer with working flash player and it shows 6.00 mb. So somewhere from the installation, the file is lost. i have tried pretty much all suggestions, dating back from '09 and really really need some advice.

Hi, thanks for starting your thread. I noted your post on the other one:-) No problem.
Ok, first things first. Use IE8 and go to this test site. When it opens, let me know if you can see the Flash logo animate(spin)
Also what version of Flash Player is displayed?
Now do the same thing with FF(Firefox) and let me know that.
Do you have XP with the Service Pack 3? Using IE go up to the Tool bar and click on Help, then About Internet Explorer. It will tell you.
After you check the test site using FF, we'll just use the IE browser for now.
Let me know the above.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Have done that, it never shows the animation nor a version of flashplayer installed on my comp. that is what made me check my files and where i see it downloaded, but no bites in file. same on FF and i would rather stick with IE cuz i have never used ff i don't feel like learning how to use new browser. have xp service 3 pack. furthermore, i couldn't even log on to the adobe forum, was forever stuck on redirecting. i am on another computer posting these threads.

Ok, well that is strange. Now Flash Player is a browser plugin and no files will be in your program files. Go to Add/Remove and see if Flash Player ActiveX is listed. If you Installed FP(Flash Player) in FF(Firefox) then you should see Flash Player Plugin.
Using IE, go to Tools, Manage addons and look under "Show"(very light text) for Shockwave Flash Object in All addons.
Is it Installed, Enabled and what version is listed?
Can you bring up any website with this computer?

ok..flash player x is listed. always has been. i don't understand the whole "no files" bit cuz the computer that i am using show 6.00mb in files. unless it is outdated? this computer is brand new, custom made as of last month to my specs, so i can't see how adobe would be outdated. Mozilla shows in my add/remove files, but that flash player plugin is nowhere to be found. in fact, this is all the adobe files i see in order:
Adobe AIR
Adobe Download Manager
Adobe Flash Player10 Active X
Adobe Flash Reader X
Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5
i am really not liking mozilla, however...upon clicking a video, it is telling me i need to update to newer version of adobe. When i click on dl, it gives me a window to save as a binary file. it will not download and all security/firewall are off. Shockwave has always been enabled. pretty much anything you posted to do in past threads..i have done. its driving me crazy
i can bring up other websites, just cannot watch videos and was stuck on that redirect to adobe forum..will try the forum again.

soo..i was able to log in for my adobe account, however, still cannot log in to forum. when i click on login, it gets stuck on redirect. bar shows that it is downloading, but will not open screen. so back on the comp that works

Hi, I appreciate the info, but we're getting off track. See my Post#1 and any thing I asked please answer. Then Post#3 needs answered.
You are giving me information that I haven't asked for and not the info that I need.
When you receive an email notification, page down and click on reply to this message or something similar. That brings you to your thread.
Thanks,
eidnolb

ok..i answered ur questions to ur #1 post. but i see u do not like my format. so i shall reanswer.
1) In IE8, i do not see flashing sign nor does it tell me what version flashplayer is installed.
2) In Mozilla it did the same.
since day 1 and after each uninstall/install, i have never seen the flashing logo or any info telling me what version flash player i have installed, which is why i checked in my install/uninstall from day 1. adobe flash player x is in there. using service pack 3. i agree, lets stick with IE.
i also answered ur questions in post 3..but ok. i will be more direct. yes, flash player x is listed. if you reread post 4, i listed exactly what adobe files i found in order.
shockwave is enabled..from day 1
i can bring up any websites on the "said" computer. last post was referring to the oddity of not being able to log in to adobe forum even tho i can log into my adobe account.
i am only able to write this thread because on am another computer.

Hi, ok. This is from one of my posts:
Using IE, go to Tools, Manage addons and look under "Show"(very light text) for Shockwave Flash Object in All addons.
Is it Installed, Enabled and what version is listed?
Now using FF, is there a Shockwave Flash plugin Installed in the plugins and Enabled?
Thanks,
eidnolb

when i go to manage add-ons is shows that shockwave flash object (10.1.102.64) and shockwave active x control (11.5.9) are both enabled. i do not want to mess with mozilla please lets stick with IE. i have always used IE. mozilla will not let me download the newest version of flash player and i do not want to venture into that arena.

Ok thanks. With that addon there, then if the Flash files are correct there shouldn't be any issue. Let's take a look at your Flash files: Go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash Open Flash and post back all files. The NPSWF files you will need to right click on and then click on Properties to obtain the version numbers. In case you are running a 64bit OS, replace the "System32" with SysWOW64.
One other thing, have you had any virus problems?
What Anti-Virus/Spyware programs do you use?
Thanks,
eidnolb

not sure what u meant by the NPSWF files but these are the versions of adobe files i found there.
1) Adobe Flash Player 101r102; version 10.1.102.64; ActiveX Control; opens with unknown application
2) Adobe Flash Player Installer/uninstaller; version 10.1.102.64
Have been using CA Internet Security; have disabled firewall when uninstall/installing
No known viruses. my kids do view alot of videos on youtube/facebook. porn behind my back...possibly, but firewall has always been on.
btw...just tried the kill-bit theory. rebooted but still no video

Hi, Those are the Flash files for IE. Evidently you haven't Installed Flash Player into FF, which is fine.
If you have CA Security, I would keep that personal Firewall disabled and use the Windows Firewall. Try that and see if your videos work.
Also using IE, go to Tools, Internet Options and make sure the Security for the Internet Zone is set to Medium.
Those particular websites are where a lot of viruses come from, so be sure to run Scans frequently.
Thanks, going to be off for a time.

You should have three files for the Internet Explorer version of Flash Player:
- Flash10l.ocx
- FlashUtil10l_ActiveX.dll
- FlashUtil10l_ActiveX.exe
If you have only two of these, then you should uninstall / reinstall Flash Player.
Regarding the size in Add/Remove Programs, it is normal that no size is shown for the Flash Player browser add-on.

OMFG!!! I f'reakin fixed my problem. Only thing is that my memory is sketchy due to my ambien pill. When i woke up i thought i dreamt that it fixed my flash player...but yes people. i can watch videos again! so..this is wat i think i did:
1. there is a thread about a "kill-bit" registry or something that is in one of the other threads. its from microsoft and you will need to read directions carefully. i wrote my steps down as if i were baking a cake..step by step. However..this alone did not fix it.
2. It would be hours before i remember that I downloaded 2 different virus software (both on trial). One was called ESET and the other Malaware (somthing like that). You get the downloads thru ur email. So i downloaded ESET first and scanned my comp. It found 4 files that were corrupt and fixed it..all were in java script files. Rebooted and holy crapy...my first video in 2 weeks came on. Thank you eidnolb and dude with the backward name for your posts.
I would of made a new thread declaring this fix..but as i said previously...i am just a mom and this morning i cannot find the button to make new thread >.<
I don't know if this will work for anyone else..but i tried everything that was posted except for the ESET.

Hi Minxie, Well I'm glad your problem is fixed!!! The procedure to delete that Kill-bit in the Registry is just part of the problem.
It doesn't remove nor is it intended to Remove a Virus or correct System or computer files. That takes the Anti-Virus like MBAM or ESET. It does get sort of complicated
You did the right thing tho in having your computer scanned.
Thanks for posting back how you solved your problem! I saw your other thread too:-)
I think I would keep ESET
Thanks,
eidnolb
