Hi All,

We are unable to un-install Flash file from the location: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\Flash.ocx

We have tried the following options:

1. http://www.instant-registry-fixes.org/uninstall-flash-player-to-fix-flashocx-error/.

2. The Uninstaller (www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157) mentioned in the administration guide(http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/flashplayer/pdfs/flash_player_11_5_admin_guide.pdf

Appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

As of Windows 8 Microsoft embeds Flash Player in the browser.  This includes Windows Server 2012.  Due to this, Microsoft locks the permissions on the files to prevent users from deleting the files.  Microsoft does not provide a standalone installer for Flash Player for IE/Edge on these platforms and all updates from from Microsoft via Windows Update.  By forcibly unlocking the file and forcing the deletion of the file you've most likely rendered your system unable to re-install Flash Player as there is no separate standalone installer for Flash Player on Windows Server 2012.  If you don't need Flash Player on this system, that's not an issue.  But if you need Flash Player on this system you may, or may not, be able to reinstall it.

    Hi,

What operating system, including version, is this on?  Is Flash.ocx the entire file name, or does it include a version number in the file name?

Also, the Administrator Guide link you post is very old.  Please obtain the latest one at Adobe Flash Player Administration Guide for Flash Player | Adobe Developer Connection.  The guide is generally updated with each major release, as such, it's best to bookmark this page and not the link to the guide itself.

    Hi Maria,

    Thanks for your response.

Here are the details you requested:

    OS: WIndows Server 2012

Flash.ocx is the entire file name. Version number is not included in the file name.

    Version: 21.0.0.182

We tried using the options mentioned in the latest admin guide you shared. However, it didn't uninstall the file.

Finally, we followed the steps mentioned in the below URL and it resolved the issue:
