Video and Audio Don't Work. getPLusPlus_adobe_reg.exe Application error?

A couple of days ago, I noticed videos would not load. I investigated further and found out my Adobe Flash player was faulty and probably out of date. Around the same time, I noticed a dialog box opened when I opened Mozilla Firefox, the main broswer I use. It was titled getPlusPlus_adobe_reg.exe application error and said it could not be read from memory. I've tried reinstalling Adobe Flash but to no avail. When trying to view Youtube videos, I find the black background for the video, which turns white after loading the page.

Can anyone please help rectify this? Thanks.

Hey eidnolb. I can uninstall Adobe DLM. Should I do that now?

I've tried both of the sites but the Flash content expected to appear are missing.

Hi Lumit, I thot perhaps the test sites would be different. I was reading on Mozilla Firefox yesterday about updating and will recheck it, but just from memory it had the Uninstall info to do. What I am thinking is that the NPSWF32.dll and the SWF are both the old versions. If you manually removed them, and then went to the test site, would that trigger the update? Thinking out loud here. Or, just run the Install  with the FF link? I mean FF is not working correctly anyway, and if that worked, well good. If not, then we may have to Uninstall and re-Install. At least we will be rid of the 10.0.22.87. Let me know what you think on these ideas.

Anyway to answer your question, yes I would remove that DLM. It didn't work anyway:-)

Hey eidnolb. Sorry for another really late reply. I think the ideas are fine, and I would not mind using whichever, as long it may fix this annoying problem. Which one do you think works better?

Hi lumit, Were you able to remove the DLM extension in FF? I would manually remove the Flash file NPSWF32.dll vs 10.0.22.87 and reboot. Then check the FF SWF vs 10.0.22.87 to see if that has been removed as a result. If not, remove it also. Then you can go to either one of those test sites using FF and see if you get a message that you need a plugin. If so, just follow the instructions. If not, then we'll use the Flash Player Installer for FF.

Hey eidnolb. I removed Adobe DLM. I manually removed the Flash file and rebooted, but then when I checked the Flash folder, it returned to the Flash folder. Weird.... Another problem.

Hi Lumit, Ok, I should have known that on the reboot that would happen, sorry. Have you ever had such a hard time Installing Flash Player in FF? LOL, I certainly have not seen this. There is nothing wrong with what you did, this is just the way FP works, since after the removal nothing was Installed and it reverted to what was there. (the old version)

Ok, now what we'll do is you will repeat removing that again, but don't reboot. Immediately Install the FP for FF which you will have on your Desktop. Here is the link to download and SAVE to your Desktop:

You may already have this on your Desktop, but just to be sure you don't use the FP for IE, in case that Installer is still on your Desktop, remove the other Installers to the recycle bin. Then SAVE this one to the Desktop.

We have disabled several different add ons, etc in FF, so I would keep them disabled for now. Also, the NOD32.

After you Install FP into FF, then of course Reboot.

I'm glad you were able to remove that DLM, this I think contributed to the issue with FP/FF.

Hey eidnolb. Yea, this is one of the longest problems from my computer. I followed your instructions but to no avail. The version number was still the same after I rebooted. Do you suggest I remove Shockwave from Firefox as well before reinstalling? Cuz I didn't the first time.

Hi Lumit, When you say removing the Shockwave from Firefox, are you speaking of the SWF vs 10.0.22.87 that is the plugin? I would remove the NPSWF32.dll file that is in the Flash folder and also the SWF vs 10.0.22.87 plugin. Then I would not Reboot, but use the FF Installer immediately.

I would close all browsers, remove that Flash file, remove the SWF plugin but do not reboot. Then use the FF Installer from your desktop and when that is finished, Reboot.

Let me know.

If this doesn't work, then there may be a registry problem.

Hey eidnolb. Ah ok, I see. The only problem though is maually getting rid of the plugin in Firefox becasue plugins don't have the visible option of being uninstalled, unlike extensions in Firefox. Any ideas?

Hi Lumit, I was just getting ready to log off. Well, I didn't know that you couldn't remove a plug-in. I am a firm believer if I Installed something I should be able to Uninstall it:-) Well, Microsoft says we can do that with the ActiveX's we Install, believe it or not. Disabling the plug-in won't work, we need it removed. There is a revised Troubleshooting guide that just came out and they have added a lot of info. There is add'l info for IE and I'll have to check for FF. I'll have to look at it again.

I'll try to check that in the morning and also the Mozilla Firefox site. Why the Uninstaller doesn't remove that old file and the plug-in I don't understand.

One thing that you could check that the Guide has some info on, is in Add/Remove, are you able to Remove "Adobe Flash Player 10 Plug-in" separately from "Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX?" It is saying that if you only want to Remove Flash Player from either IE only, or FF only, to do it this way. This is something new, so I need to make sure I understand it.

The regular Uninstaller removes Flash Player from all browsers. The Flash files for IE and FF each have a file that with 10.1 will Uninstall. I'll check that  out also. Will let you know on these changes.

I want you to read some info from the Revised Troubleshooting Guide about using a Flash File to Uninstall Flash Player from either the IE browser or the FF browser.

This utility is for Flash Player for Internet Explorer. Locate the installation utility. It is a file with a name like FlashUtil10d.exe. Now I realize this if for Vista & Win7 and just certain versions as stated of Flash Player, but the procedure

is new, in that prior to FP 10.1 it supposedly worked for other OS also.

Now I said all of that in order to cite the following info which begins at "Note:" It appears that you can use that Utility to Uninstall Flash Player for FF, but need to Install FP10.1 manually, unlike for Vista & Win7 above. Fine. Then is says if you want to Uninstall FP for only IE, or for only FF, do it from Add/Remove. Needless to say I am confused, because removing FP from Add/Remove never Uninstalled Flash Player.

Now this is not even taking into consideration what Mozilla Firefox says about Uninstalling Flash Player, updating, etc, etc. They don't mention any of this, so which procedure to follow?

Hey eidnolb. Haven't been on for ages. Been on a week long trip and just got back. I've read your very long posts and there are two separate removes: one for the plug-in and one for the Active-X. Should I remove the plugin?

Hi Lumit, Since you have been gone, Flash Player came out with an Update on 8/10/10 and we are now on vs 10.1.82.76.

Plus an Update on Adobe Air and either the 17th or 18th Adobe Reader & Acrobat.

On the same day Microsoft came out with 14 Windows updates; don't know if you have automatic updates and have them or not. There was a Critical Internet Explorer Update.

Also another thread had some info on that old NPSWF file and I need to check that for you. So let me do some review of your thread, find that other thread and get back to you. It will probably be a couple of hours.

Let me know if any of the Adobe updates apply to you other than the Flash Player. Also if you have the Windows updates Installed.

Hi, here is that thread, take a look at Post#7. Try that and see if that removes it and check and see if that also removed the SWF also.

If that can be done, then if we Install FP into FF, then you'll be Installing the new version which is no problem. Let me know since I may need to give you new instructions and links.

Hi, So even tho you didn't see the animation, was a Flash Player version listed or was it greyed out? Also did you Disable those two add ons?

Do you use adblock? Any pop-up blocking software installed? Also you will need to post back your anti-virus so I can take a look at that. Clearly something is blocking Flash content.
