Videos not playing on certain websites

Lately I've been having issues with videos not playing on certain websites.  They will play for a few seconds and then stop.  At first, I thought it was a buffer issue, so I would pause video and wait a few seconds and sometimes even a few minutes and then try to play the video.  However, this didn't help and instead nothing plays.  I hit the play button and the only thing that happens is the play button changes to the pause button.  I usually run firefox but when I started to have this problem I tried to play the video using internet explorer and I get the same results.  I've tried to clean my cache and that didn't help.  I've also tried to change the storage settings for websites but that didn't help.  Though when I tried that I noticed that only two websites showed up and they were weird websites and not the ones that I was having problems with.  I've never had problems watching videos before and I can go to other websites and watch videos perfectly fine.  Ive tried watching videos on youtube or yahoo and they work perfectly fine.  If I go to nfl, mlb, or gamespot.com then the videos don't work.  I have the latest version of Windows 8 and the computer I'm using is not even a year old.

    I have close to or the same issues all of you posters are having.  I run windows 7 IE 11.  It doesn't matter what browser you run its the same.  I believe that the problem is the ISP.  I have Charter.  I can not view videos from certain major network web sites ie FOX, History Channel, Fx, CNN to name a few.  I have found a solution for this problem that works for me.  I use Hotspot Shield.  It is a privacy program that cloaks your ISP address.  Its free.  When I connect to  Hotspot Shield very video on every site that I have a problem with plays.  I have experimented with this for a week before I did this post.  It works every time.  Try it.  Hope this helps.

    First, if you haven't rebooted since experiencing these symptoms, start with that.  Your machine may just be in a funky state.

    For Internet Explorer, you'll need to disable Hardware Acceleration elsewhere:

    Thanks.  Tried to do this and I'm still having problems.  First thing I did was clicked on the HTML5 video and non HTML5 video and I was able to see both of those videos.  I then tried the next step and deselected enable hardware acceleration.  I then tried to see if I needed to update any drivers and nothing needed to be updated.  SInce everything was updated I selected enable hardware acceleration and still was having problems.    I then tried to do the steps that you listed for internet explorer and I get a message saying "This Microsoft fix it does not apply to your operating system or application version.  I then followed the steps to report my problem and attached this url to that report.  Only thing I haven't tried yet is the suggestion Jyank offered and that was to use Hotspot Shield.

    If you put the site in Compatibility Mode in IE, does that resolve the issue? Fix site display problems with Compatibility View - Windows Help

    I'm curious to know if you see the same problem with Google Chrome.


    Tried running on chrome and still having the same issues.  Tried to put the sites on compatibility mode and that didn't work either.  The one thing that I did notice is when I try to run the videos there is a bar that has one bar highlighted and it says 486 kbps.  On another site I've had issues with the bar has two bars highlighted and it says 700 kbps.  Could that be part of the problem?  I have tried to go to another computer and an Ipad to see if I can view the videos and I can view them on the different computer and Ipad.
