What Version of Flash should I use for XP Version 2002???

I have an older PC with base XP on it and I am having trouble installing/running flash. Can anyone tell me what version of Flash that will support my old PC running Windows XP Professional Version 2002??? Everything else is working fine except for Flash, so I don't want to get into upgrading the operating system. I have several browsers (IE, Opera, FireFox) installed and Flash will not work with any of them.  Thanks for any help.

Hi Thanks for the explanation of the PC, applications etc. It would be interesting to know what Flash files are actually Installed, if any.

With the Specs you listed, an older version of FP should work, with the understanding of possible limitations on using it.

Also this: SWFLASH.OCX.  I looked at the properties on this

program and it said it was release 5,0,42,0. I tried to delete it and it will .....

Were you offline when you tried to delete it? If not, I would close all browsers and then try.

    Thanks,

I rebooted in safe mode with command prompt. Form the command prompt I deleted

the Flash directory. Rebooted, and something recreated the directory and

SWFLASH.OCX program. I don't have a clue what is going on. I don't know where it

is creating it from. I did find that directory specified in the registry in at

least two places. I did delete the Macromedia (or whatever it was) and

everything under it in the registry. But it all comes back. I am going to play

    with again tonight.

Thanks, I think on the Reboot most likely. This SWFlash.ocx has appeared sometimes when I'm troubleshooting Flash Player.

I've always just had the user go to the Flash folder and right click on it and delete/remove it. Perhaps you have more than one Directory?

You might want to look in Program Files/Common Files. I know that these older Flash Player versions are so different and changes were made as to Uninstalling them.

    Thanks,

Hi, You shouldn't have any problem running any version of Flash Player on the XP. I'm sure you have the latest Service Pack (3) Installed.

    You can follow these  instructions:

Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Uninstaller:

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Installer for IE- use the EXE Installer

    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html

Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Installer for FF- use the EXE Installer for plugin based (from the same site)

Close all browser windows, you only want to be looking at your Desktop.

Disable any messenger services, as yahoo, msn, etc in the system tray(area near the clock)

Disable ALL Anti-Virus/Spyware programs as they can block the Shockwave Flash Object.

Be sure to use the Administrator Account.

Run the Uninstaller and when finished, Reboot(restart) your computer.

Now check to make sure the Anti-Virus/Spyware programs are still disabled before running the Installers.

Run the Installer for IE, Run the Installer for FF and when finished, Reboot.

Then go to this test site and test each browser:

    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

You may want to print these instructions to make it easier to follow. If you have any questions, let me know.

    Thanks,

trying to avoid upgrading and just wanted to get Flash to work with the base XP

    system.

Many softwares will not run on earlier Windows versions than XP-SP2, which by itself is no longer supported by Microsoft.

However, I have successfully installed Flash Player 10.2 on Windows 2000, so there should be no problem running FP 10.2 on the base Windows XP.
