Question

Flash Player 10.1 installed, but not working in any browser, or showing up on C:

I recently updated my flash player, however since then, websites requiring flash do not seem to fully load. However, it should also be noted that there is no notification indicating I need to install the software. Sites such as youtube will load, but fail to display the video I want to view, and showing only a black box. Also, sites I need for my HSC preparation are not working, such as the Board of Studies Online Multiple Choice, and Maths Online. The web page will load, indicating "done" in the bottom left corner of the screen, but the screen will be white.

I have tried the following:

  • un-installing, and re-installing (numerous times)
  • Restarting the system after both un-installing and re-installing
  • Checking all mentioned websites on three browsers --> Firefox 3.5.11, IE 8, Google Chrome. All presented the same outcome: blank pages etc.
  • Ensuring that flash was enabled in all above browsers

My operating system is 32 bit; Vista (Have checked this file--  C:/Windows/System32/Adobe -- and found that the flash player files are absent despite being 'told' it has successfully installed. After which the 'movie'/'f' symbol does not show up in the installation check online)

I assume all the above browsers are 32bit as well, however I'm not sure how to check this.

Please help... I have been searching forums for hours and trying various methods to attempt to fix the problem myself, but have been unsuccessful. It has become increasingly frustrating with the approaching HSC only a couple of weeks away !

I had the exact same problem ,  I had no problems at all with flash player 9 , in firefox or internet explorer, then i made the mistake of clicking the update add ons button or check for updates on firefox, in the plug ins, and it said that my flash player was out of date, so i clicked update and got the 10.1 version.   Well what a nightmare, got crash messages every single time, uninstalled everything, etc, followed all ionstructions, and nothing.   then i decided to just dump the updated version of flash, and reinstalled flash player 9, and everthing worked 100% again/   What a joke that adobe cannot admit there is some major bug or problem with the latest version, as it just doesnt work, and there are so many users complaining, but they wont admit that its just the problem is there system for 10.1 is just a dud.   being not really a computer person it took me 3 days to get back to where i was and figure out that the "Update" was a step back to the dino ago.   now ive learnty to just not update unless there is a problem.   if it aint broken dont try and fix it...

just to add when i updated flash wouldnt work in any browser, when prior to clicking update, it worked perfectly in all, then i downloaded google crome which has a built in flash update thing, and guess what, it crashes every time. also.   i really think the problem is just with the lastest version 10.1, as 9 worked perfectly

So you downloaded and installed FP 9, and it worked in all browsers again? Even Chrome?

My husband finally got FP installed and working yesterday.  He had to change the privacy option in IE to medium.  Go to  Tools/Internet Options/Privacy. Move the slider to medium. Apply and then try to install. Worked for us.

I put something on the forum but I'm not sure you will see it. Hope you get

this. Yesterday my husband finally got Flash Player 10.1 to work in IE. We

had to change the Internet Options in IE. Go to Tools/Internet

Options/Privacy and change the slider to medium. Then try the install again.

It worked for us. Hope it works for some of the rest of you. We kept

installing but never got the confirming movie on the site although it said

it was installed in our programs list.

It's working now thank goodness. Hope this helps someone.

That looks correct - everything is there: the ActiveX for IE, and the plugin for Firefox.  (Chrome has the Flash Player preinstalled; it cannot be installed or uninstalled.)

Can you check both IE and FF if Flash Player (Shockwave Flash object) is enabled?
