Double links in HTML5

Hi FM community!

I have an issue when publishing a user manual in HTML5 format. The links are doubled in the whole document (see image). Still, in the XML files, there is no sign of them (see second image). What could be the issue?

Hi,

When I see your screenshot, I notice that not all links are doubled, only some of them. Some links are only in the list with the bigger font size. Could this be a hint for you?

Could it be that you have a mini TOC or something similar?

How do I find out if I have a Mini TOC? I have tried the route Insert - Table of Contents - Mini TOC options, but FM doesn't give me any options to choose from.

I tried searching for the answer from the XML view (I usually use WYSIWYG) but didn't get any wiser.

A mini TOC would highlight the enitire mini TOC when selected, similar to selecting a text inset or a graphic.

That certainly looks like you've added a Related Topics bit to the document. What does the FM source file look like?

Ok, so it's present in the FM source - what's the problem with that topic when published? Your code chunk doesn't align with your image initially posted. What does that "Management" screenshot represent? The TOC?

Sorry for the confusion. These are two different sections of the manual I'm editing, but the issue is the same: when publishing the manual to HTML5, the links that I have created are visible (like in the first image I sent to this thread), as they should be. But then FM creates extra links also which I'm not able to detect anywhere in FM. When publishing to PDF, there are no such issues.

So is it in a topic you're seeing them? Have a look in the source view of the output and look at the corresponding page in the FM source - that might give you some clues as to how they are appearing (and from where).

So apparently the HMTL5 file is creating 'related links' automatically that are not visible in the FM file... Not in WYSIWYG or XML view.

I'm really confused here. Could some HTML5 settings be causing this? The thing is, I have used the same settings for years now...

This description in the online help says that you can manage related links also via your DITA map. Could it be that they are defined somewhere outside of your specific file?

(I do not work with DITA. Therefore it could be that my question does not make sense.)

Hi Winfried, it could be possible that the related links are defined outside of my specific file since this same issue appears in many different XML pages. I read through the link you sent (thank you) but I still don't know what to do with this issue...

Is this document something you've set up or just inherited from somebody else? I suspect it's going to need somebody like @Matt-Tech Comm Tools to figure out what's going on with this.

Thx @Jeff_Coatsworth for the heads-up. 

@TechWright, it's hard to piece together with snips from various docs, but it appears your DITA topic has related links at the end of the topic, and when published to HTML, those links are pushing up to the area where you've inserted fm-xrefs. Does this accurately describe your issue? If so, why are there both xrefs at the top, and related links at the bottom?

Hi Matt. Thanks for helping me with this issue. 

Yes, your explanation described my issue well. Even with topics that do not have related links at the end of the topic, for some reason, those links appear when I publish the doc to HTML.

To answer your second question, my opening message on this thread has a kind of mini-TOC in the form of a Management page with links to the sub-categories of said page. This page is meant to have only fm-xref links, nothing else. Still, when I publish to HTML, the second set of links (as depicted in the first image of this thread) appears seemingly out of nowhere.

I hope I'm able to explain this clearly, if you need screenshots or anything else to clarify the issue, please ask.
