Hi,
FrameMaker 2020 (16.0.4.1062)
I just wanted to use the plugin "Split current document" in File | Utilities.
However, I cannot find it any more!
I have a new laptop and do not have any older version to compare.
I checked also these folders for anything with "split":
c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe FrameMaker 2020\fminit\Splitter\ (I do not know, if this is related; the folder exists, but still no menu item in FrameMaker)
c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe FrameMaker 2020\fminit\
c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe FrameMaker 2020\fminit\Plugins\
c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe FrameMaker 2020\startup\FileSplitter.jsxbin (is this the splitter utility?)
Nothing with "split" in maker.ini.
Does anyone know, if this plugin was removed from version 16.0.4?
What should I do to get the Split current document utility back?
Yes. I restarted FrameMaker. No change.
Best regards
Winfried
Hi Winfried,
This is (in 3 images) what I did
Have a good day

Today I was able to isolate the problem.
Without telling the whole story, here is the solution:
1. the problem is NOT caused by "Split current document".
2. the problem is caused by certain configurations of Windows or FrameMaker scripts. Which these are, I do not know.
Maybe file permissions under Windows?
3. the problem is that binary scripts with the file extension "*.jsxbin" in the "\startup" directory are not executed. On the other hand, scripts with the extension "*.jsx" are executed.

I also checked, when I used the Splitter utility the last time. This was in October 21. At that time update 2 was out. Therefore on the old laptop I had this Splitter utility in update 2, but not on the new laptop.

Strange.
In my installation (UK-english) I have in both FM-16 and FM-17. The script is located at
H:\Adobe\FrameMaker.17en\Adobe FrameMaker 2022\startup\FileSplitter.jsxbin (17.0.0.226) and
H:\Adobe\FrameMaker.16en\Adobe FrameMaker 2020\startup\FileSplitter.jsxbin (16.0.4.1062)
and it appears in File > Utilities > Split Current Document.

What happens when you install Fm on a different machine, perhaps not affiliated with the networks, etc. that your current machine is on?

Thank you for your questions, I apologize for my lack of quick reaction, but I can only test FM the week-end.
So well :
YES the FileSplitter.jsxbin file is indeed where it is supposed to be.
NO, the "divide current document" entry in the Utility menu is nowhere to be shown
BUT, and that is the good news, I found that I can MANUALY load the script via the script panel to enable the feature in the menu list. This is still a BUG.
Now I can test FM seriously
I didn't installed FM on another machine yet.
Thank you for your comments.

Hi Piem3D,
Also in FM 2022 the Splitter utitily is missing.
How did you run the Splitter Javascript script?
You said that you were able to start it manually. What did you do?
When I select File | Script | Run and open the folder with the correct Javascript script, then jsxbin files are not shown.
c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe FrameMaker 2022\startup\FileSplitter.jsxbin

Winfried,
You are right, when browsing in the Script Catalogue, then jsxbin files are not displayed and you can not select. However, just get by any means the full path ...\Adobe FrameMaker 2022\startup\FileSplitter.jsxbin (e.g. in the File Explorer) and enter it after pressing the Add button in the Script Catalogue.

And forgot to say that it will be available in the Utilities Menu, until you quit FrameMaker.

Hi PM,
Thank you very much! That's a great fix!
I had not noticed that I can change the file selection to show also jsxbin files.
Of course it would be best, if FrameMaker would show this script automatically, but at least now I can use this feature.
Best regards
Winfried

Hi Klaus,
I work with the structured interface (although I do not use structure yet; but I want!).
When I changed the interface from structured to unstructured and back, nothing changed. No Splitter.
Best regards

Workaraound:
Download attached file
rename it as CallSplitter.jsx
Copy the file to the FrameMaker 2020 user directory
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\16\startup (17 for 2022)
If this folder doesn't exist, just create it.
Restart FrameMaker.
If the normal way works again for you, the script should be deleted.
You can also do this via FrameMaker -> File -> Script -> Catalog.
What does this small script do?
- It simply calls "FileSplitter.jsxbin" again.
Many thanks to @Winfried Reng for your tests
