Is there an easy way to identify an item when you're not sure what layer it was drawn on? I'm new to the program and come from a drafting software background where you could simply point to an item on the screen and it would immediately i.d. the layer that it was drawn on.

Unfortunately that's not a feature in Fresco at this point. You would have to go through the layers and turn them off/on until you find the one you're looking for. Not the most user friendly feature that this point but that's what you can do.

Thank you Sjaani, that's what I thought. As I'm getting better at using the program I'm paying closer attention when starting a new layer. Now if I could just figure out why my Apple pencil stops working when using certain brushes.

Your pencil stops working? That's not good. What Gen of Apple Pencil are you using? I know sometimes when mine stops working, its because the tip got loose and I have to tighten it back up.

Sometimes I'll be working with a particular brush but then I suddenly can't draw using the Apple pencil. If I draw with my finger the brush works. I'm wondering if it's the sidetap feature that I have set to switch between erase and draw. Or, maybe it's a pressure sensitivity setting for the pencil. I've checked the tip to be sure it's secure and that isn't fixing it. I have a Generation 2 pencil, using an Ipad Air 4.

In my experience, its not a feature seen in most drawing programs. Its not something seen in Photoshop, or none of the main competitors either

That would be a very useful feature. Also, I wonder if there's a way to select something on the screen and automatically clone the brush settings used for that particular item.

Actually, if you right click anywhere in a Photoshop doc it shows you all the layers under than point, in order, and are selectable. It's crazy useful, and functionality that is desperately needed in Fresco IMHO...

Someone mentioned Procreate to me, that I should check it out. I believe it features layer identification of a drawn item. I love Fresco but find the lack of this feature to be very frustrating.

Desktop photoshop has had this feature for a while. The little Autoselect button at the top left. Check it and whenever you click the selection tool on a part of the drawing it will go to the correct layer. I just wish Fresco had a version.

You should be able to use the selection too and it should select the layer it on.
