Importing a photo and moving it off canvas

After watching Kyle's Getting Started, I have tried to move an imported photo off my working canvas so I can reference it for my work. As I move it off the canvas it resolutely disappears. I have an IPad v9. Am I missing something or is this feature not available on my IPad?

Fresco does not have a reference feature allowing for the photo to be moved to the side no.
