I have just bought & installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. Everything has seemed to be installed OK untill you try to use your TEXT TOOL !!

When you press the FONT Dropdown arrow key it displays a very fast flash of the list but will not display it !! This leaves me with a choice of only 1 font, which is "Myriad Pro" !! I have tried 4 times uninstalling & re-installing the program but without success !! I possess a well set up computer so what is the trouble ??

Can anyone helo....All the best........Bill [email address deleted by host].

so what is the trouble ??

You have some crappy font somewhere in there. Bad freeware fonts often do that...  Get rid of any non-essential/non-system fonts and try again, then add fonts back to your system only as needed.

I am unsure which operating system you are using?  If it is Windows XP then I would recommend reviewing the steps listed in Reduce the number of active fonts (Windows XP)

The directions can also be relevant to newer versions of Windows as font handling has not changed very significantly since Windows XP but if you are using a newer operating system please respond with the version to this thread.

Hi Jeff,

I would like to thank everyone & yourself for your detailed suggestions.

I have deleted down to the essential fonts in my Windows7/ Control Panel/Fonts folder, (but there has been no check on the integrity of the remaining 75 Windows fonts ?).

I find that when I highlight the type of font in the taskbar box, I then can use the Up-Down arrows on my keyboard to change to my desired font family, this does show that the fonts are hidden there. The only trouble is that when I click the Drop-down arrow the list disappears quickly and doesn’t show what is available . I have placed a Temp. Fonts folder on my desktop & tried to isolate any of my remaining Font files but the program wont let me carry out this maneuver. Please accept my families Best Wishes for the festive season & hope you may have some helpful advice.

Bill Ellis the fonts which you are currently experiencing difficulty with are the fonts installed by the Operating System itself.  Unfortunately I am not aware of a way to check the integrity of these fonts themselves.  You may want to check with Microsoft to see if they have a utility to check their integrity?

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the advice it’s appreciated. The funny thing is that I can open up the Font Drop-down Arrow list in my still uninstalled old Photoshop program, how come the older program can open up the Windows7 / Control Panel / Font List & the new one can’t ???

Bill I am unsure what version your older version of Photoshop is but it might have something to do with the current version rendering a font preview.
