So, after getting quite quite annoyed at this, I am asking the question:
How do i fix the "Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue" error on installation with windows 8.1
Details of things i have tried and know
So, New install of Windows 8.1
Windows CS4 Production Premium
No previous version of Adobe has been installed (CCCleaner therefore doesn't work)
Compatability mode, set to Windows 7, or Windows vista service pack 1, brings up same result.
I am a student, and therefore can't afford to sign up to a 1 year contract for £185.88 (nor the "cheaper" one off £185.90)
As i am not a subscriber, i can't gain access to the Adobe Live Chat.
Please, someone help.

Problem: Account's Documents Location had been moved from original location.
Solution: Move documents back to original location
If top solution doesn't work then:
Create new admin account.
Install from that account.
Once installed, you are free to delete account and all files from new account.
CS4 works perfectly

Hi RealoFoxtrot,
Can you please suggest from where have you downloaded the product and what is the size of the product? Its a possibility that the downloaded content might just be corrupt because of which the error is coming up.
Try this link and suggest if this works for you or not : Download CS4 products

I attempted doing the full Production Premium version as well as the CS4 Photoshop. Both came up with the same message

.... I think i have found it.
The UAC failed to work, as did the rest of the link in that forum post.
However, This person Re: Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe Customer Support for assistanc... Had the problem that his Documents Folder had been moved.
My laptop originally had a partitioned documents drive. As that is really annoying, i moved documents back to the C Drive and removed the partition.
This means that the way he fixed it with redirecting documents back to the original path is not an option for me.
Would anyone know how I get around this?
